Town permits 699
new homes in 2007
There was the expected bump in residential permit requests
in December as builders stockpiled some permits for the next year, resulting in
57 permits issued for single-family homes, 28 permits issued for townhouses.
The
figure of 85 dwelling units for December means the town ended 2007 with a total
of 699 residential permits issued.
This
is well below the limit of 800 the town commissioners had hoped for to conserve
the water allocation from Raleigh as long as possible. The town will not get an
increase in the amount of water allowed until 2010.
This
is also a considerable slowdown from the previous three years. In 2004, the
town issued 1,116 permits for new homes of all types. That rate remained
constant in 2005 when 1,005 home permits were issued and only slacked off to
906 permits in 2006.
The
Gazette counts all permits, and its counts are unofficial, based on the monthly
report from the planning department. For water purposes, the town does not
count the homes built in Richland Hills that are connected to the Franklin
County water system.
