Art after Hours

Galleries, studios and shops will be open late Friday, March 9, for Art After Hours. Area residents are invited to visit the shops and studios from 6 to 9 p.m. before visiting one of the downtown restaurants for dinner.

There will be a reception at the Sunflower Studio on East Jones Avenue for Fay Krapf and her watercolor and mixed media show, “Energy in Line and Color.” The show will be on display through April 7.

Local guitarist and singer Arielle Bryant will perform that evening for the studio visitors.

There will be a reception and wine tasting at The Cotton Company, where resident artist Dick Larsen will be featured. His series, “Heartbreak Hotel,” will be shown for the last time in North Carolina.

The Cotton Company is inviting people for a journey through North Carolina wines. On Friday, March 16, Phillip J. Kirk, a North Carolina business leader and wine enthusiast, will join other representatives guiding guests through the tastes of Tar Heel wines.

The event will be from 7 to 9:30 p.m. and cost $20 per person. Reserve a place by calling 570-0087 or sending an e-mail to info@thecottoncompany.net.

Kirk, for those new to the area, served 16 years as the president of North Carolina Citizens for Business and Industry, the state chamber of commerce. He was also chief of staff for Republican Governors Jim Holshouser and Jim Martin and for U.S. Senator Jim Broyhill. He is now vice president for external relations at Catawba College in Salisbury and works in business development for the Yadkin Valley Winegrowers Association.
