 Watch out for
fake $50 bills

The United States Secret Service has asked the Wake Forest Police Department and area merchants to be alert for counterfeit $50 bills that are circulating in the Raleigh-Wake County area.

The bills are of high quality but can be detected if they are examined closely. The indicators are:

  • A combination “C3” for the quadrant check letter and number.

  • A combination “C 1” for the face plate letter and number.

  • The lack of a small horizontal black line between the “5” and the “0” in both the upper left and upper right corners.

  • A small black defect attached to the right border of the “0.”

The Secret Service urges anyone who has a customer attempting to pass one of the counterfeit notes to observe as much as possible about the person, including his or her description and any companions and the vehicle they are using.

If you find such a counterfeit bill, you are advised to call the Wake Forest Police Department at 554-6150 and the Secret Service’s Raleigh office at 790-2834.
