Stormwater hearing
on board agenda

With no planning issues to consider, the only public hearing for the Wake Forest Town Board Tuesday night will be about the proposed changes in the stormwater rules.

The first step in controlling stormwater, Assistant Town Engineer Scott Miles said last month, related to quantity. The second step, which the changes address, is about the quality of the water.

The town must adopt this post-construction ordinance to be in compliance with federal regulations. The ordinance to be considered at the public hearing is taken from the model ordinance developed by the School of Government at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is the minimum required by the state, Miles said.

Although passage is required, the commissioners wanted a public hearing. David Camacho said he wanted people in the building and development business to have a chance to voice their opinions, and Frank Drake wanted time for Miles to edit the document for style.

At the beginning of the meeting that starts at 7 p.m. in town hall, Heather Lee and Korrell Kanoy with Development Associates will brief the board about the steps needed to conduct a community survey. The board wants to ask a random sample of town residents about their levels of satisfaction with town services.

The commissioners will be asked to approve a $55,700 increase in the fees paid to Little Diversified to be able to gain silver certification for building in a number of high performance design features in the new town hall. Those features would save energy and water and reduce pollution in a number of areas.

They will also be asked to approve a $141,212.15 contract with Wetherill Engineering for the preliminary design and surveying to realign Chalks Road to meet the entrance of Bowling Green subdivision. The work would be done when the state Department of Transportation replaces two bridges on Jones Dairy Road.
