Franklin Street now
a construction zone

Silt fences, orange and white barrels and surveying crews are this week’s signs that Franklin Street between Wait Avenue (N.C. 98) and the East Holding Avenue is a construction zone.

During the next 15 months, Narron Construction will build two roundabouts, center medians and sidewalks as part of the town’s Renaissance Plan. All the utilities will go underground.

Narron was the low bidder for construction at $3.08 million. The entire project including landscaping – which will be bid near the end of construction – design, engineering, lighting, land acquisition and construction oversight is estimated at $5.2 million, which will come from the $9.5 million in street and sidewalk bonds the town voters approved in the spring of 2005.
