Rhonda Alderman, the longstanding
chairman of the Wake Forest Fourth of July Committee, said this week, “We had a
GREAT year! We made enough to cover all of our costs (around $28,000) and have
some in reserve (probably $2,000)! Very good feeling!”
The Wake Forest Fourth is an
all-volunteer effort that began in 1973 and is largely supported by the gate
receipts for the stadium fireworks show. The Town of Wake Forest gives the committee
$3,000 each year, and in recent years the committee has solicited sponsorships
from local businesses and individuals.
“We strive each year to make enough
to cover our costs,” Alderman said.
There are always two days of
activities. The fireworks show in Trentini Stadium on the Wake
Forest-Rolesville High School campus is held the first night and is the only
event at which admission, $5 per person, is charged. The following day mothers,
fathers, children, dogs, bicycles, strollers and wagons fill North Main Street
for the popular children’s parade. That is followed by Art-In-The-Park and
Games-In-The-Park in Holding Park for families.
The committee can always use more
volunteers. If you want to be a part of a fun-filled tradition in the town,
