A
majority of the Wake Forest town commissioners will be elected on Nov. 6,
making this an important election.
If
you want to know more about the seven candidates who are vying for the three
seats, there are two opportunities to hear their views. The Wake Forest Chamber
of Commerce will sponsor a forum on Tuesday, Oct.9, from 7 to 9 p.m. in town
hall, and the Concerned Citizens for the Preservation of Wake Forest Golf
Course will sponsor a forum at The Forks Cafeteria on Monday, Oct. 15, from 6
to 9 p.m.
The
seven candidates are planning board members Peter Thibodeau and Chris
Kaeberlein, John Shoemaker, Anne Hines, former commissioner Rob Bridges and
incumbent commissioners David Camacho and Velma Boyd. The third incumbent,
Stephen Barrington, chose not to run.
The
chamber forum will have its traditional format. The seven candidates will be
asked, in turn, the same questions by a moderator. The questions will be
selected from those submitted to the chamber in advance of the forum. If you
want to submit a question, send it to the chamber’s executive director, Jodi
LaFreniere, jodi@wakeforestchamber.org.
The forum will be broadcast on Channel 10.
The
CCP-WFGC’s forum will be less formal. Residents in the entire Wake Forest area
are invited to attend. From 6 to 7 p.m. there will be a meet, greet and eat
session where people can speak informally with the candidates and eat dinner.
The question and answer session will be from 7 to 9 p.m., and after questions
by a CCP-WFGC committee anyone in the audience may pose a question.
Although
it is sponsored by the citizens committee, organizers say the issues and
concerns that can be addressed affect the entire area and include water quality
and availability, conservation of natural resources, recreation,
transportation, growth and much more. If you want more information about the
forum, e-mail the CCP-WFGC president Hubert Jenks at pwjenks@aol.com.
The
election is Tuesday, Nov. 6. If you are not registered to vote, you have until
Oct. 12 to do so. Go to http://www.wakegov.com/elections
for information about how and where to register.
The
July 25 and Aug. 1 editions of The Wake Forest Gazette have short biographies
and information about the candidates, and the candidates have been answering
questions about local concerns in each issue since Sept. 5.
