Phone book recycling
begins Feb. 5

Six different companies will begin distributing telephone books and directories throughout Wake County during the next few days, and the county’s solid waste management is ready to handle the onslaught with its annual telephone book recycling program.

Boys & Girls Club news
Street hockey, basketball underway

Youngsters at the Wake Forest Boys & Girls Club are involved in street hockey games in the afternoon, and the teen basketball program fills the early evening hours.

Raffle set for March 29

The chamber has set the date for its biggest fund-raising event of the year, the March Madness Reverse Raffle and Auction. It will be Thursday, March 29, beginning at 6 p.m. at Luck Stone, 10920 Star Road. Dinner will be catered by Jeff Dowdle, the chef at Heritage Grill of Heritage Golf Club. for Koinonia dinner

There are only two days left to buy your tickets for the 2007 Koinonia Foundation dinner Saturday night.
When you do, you will be part of an effort to raise $55,000 to support an array of Wake Forest organizations and individuals.
The $30 tickets are available from board members – chairman Heather Holding, Beverly Whisnant, Mark Fleming, Kenille Baumgardner, Mike Johnson, Velma Boyd-Lawson and Todd Warrick – or by calling Donna Marshall at 556-5418.
The buffet dinner and silent auction at The Forks Cafeteria begin at 6:30 p.m. with the live auction featuring Jay Hoy as the auctioneer begins at 8 p.m.

In a fast hour-and-a-half meeting, the 11 people named to the steering committee for the Wake Forest Community Plan, the mayor and commissioners and six planning board members arrived at an array of problems and issues the town faces now or will face in the next decade.

Colored pencil exhibit Feb. 9

Linda Burrell, owner of The Sunflower Fine Art Gallery and Studio on East Jones Avenue, said the featured exhibit for the Feb. 9 Art After Hours will be Explorations in Colored Pencil featuring the work of members of the Triangle Chapter of the Colored Pencil Society of America. “It should be a great show!”

The Wake Forest Singers Community Chorus will begin rehearsing tomorrow night, Thursday, Jan. 25, for its next major concert, The Greatest Hits, scheduled for April 15.

Basketball free throw
contest Feb. 17

The annual Knights of Columbus free throw competition will be held Saturday, Feb. 17 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Grand Slam Sports Center at The Factory on South Main Street.
All boys and girls between 10 and 14 are eligible. You must bring proof of age, and age will be determined as of Jan. 1, 2007.
Trophies will be awarded to the top finishers, and winners in each age group will advance to the district competition on March 3, also at Grand Slam Sports Center.

Gardening program in February

Three local Wake County Master Gardener Volunteers will be at the Wake Forest Library Wednesday, Feb. 21, to share some gardening expertise and answer questions.
The program, sponsored by The Friends of Wake Forest Public Library, will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Trinity Academy
plans open house

Trinity Academy, a private preparatory school in north Raleigh, will hold its winter open house for the middle and high schools Friday, Jan. 26, from 9 to 10 a.m.
The school is at 10224 Baileywick Road in Raleigh. It offers a complete curriculum for grades kindergarten through 12. Its motto: “Where faith and reason meet creative expression.”
