There is already a crowded schedule for
September in Wake Forest, so be sure now
to mark your calendar for the two
weekends of the Wake Forest Area
Artists’ Studio Tour, Sept. 15 and 16
and 22 and 23.
Also, you are invited to the
opening reception Friday night, Sept.
14, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Sunflower
Studio on East Jones Avenue, where you
can see samples of each artist’s work
and visit with them. The web site (see
below) also has pictures of each
artist’s work.
A second event to help
promote the tour will be a reading by
Durham novelist Robert Wallace at the
Old Magnolia Trading Company, which is
just around the corner at 213 S. White
St. Wallace will read from his new book,
“A Hold on Time,” published by The Paper
Journey Press in Wake Forest, beginning
at 7:30 p.m. There will also be door
prizes and refreshments.
The tour has been an area
event since 1996 when several artists
decided to invite people into their
studios rather than loading up their
wares and traveling to shows. Visitors
have a chance to see the artist process
– maybe not all the sweat and thinking –
and see the entire range of each
artist’s work. Work on display is for
sale
The tour is organized by the
participating artists in cooperation
with the Wake Forest Cultural Arts
Association. Each year it draws several
thousand people to the studios.
The tour is free. Go to
http://www.artistsstudiotour.com for
information and maps, then set out in
September on a trip that will delight
your senses. |
