 Advisory board
members appointed

Tuesday night the Wake Forest commissioners, using secret ballots, appointed and re-appointed people to the town’s advisory boards. Although there were fewer applicants than in the past, only one vacant seat, on the urban forestry board, remains.

Board of Adjustment: Tom Litteton’s term was the only one expiring and he asked to be reappointed as an out-of-town member. The vote was to recommend his reappointment by the county commissioners for a two-year term.

Cemetery Board: Frank Smith and John Mills were reappointed for three year terms, and Kelly Baker Williams, a lifetime resident who has family buried in the cemetery, was appointed to a vacant seat for a three-year term.

Human Relations Council: Stephanie Jenny, Tim Roth and Glendine King-Jeffreys were reappointed to three-year terms, and Tenice Caudle was appointed to fill the vacant seat with a term that ends in December of this year.

Caudle, who was out of town when the other applicants were interviewed by the board, was interviewed briefly at the start of Tuesday night’s meeting. “I have lived here all my life, twenty-five years,” she said. After she finished college and returned to Wake Forest, she said, she determined “I wanted to make a difference in my hometown.” She would like to bridge the communications gap between residents and town government.

Parks and Recreation: Chairman Thomas Hodges Jr., David Faircloth and Tom Shipman were reappointed for three-year terms, and Earl Creutzburg and Jim Thompson were appointed to the two unexpired terms which both end in December of 2008.

Planning Board: The only applicant to fill Speed Massenburg’s out-of-town seat was Sarah Bridges. The Wake Forest commissioners voted to recommend her appointment to a two-year term by the county commissioners.

Senior Center Board: Chairman Hope Newsom, a former town commissioner, Bonita Sharpee and Wanda Mukherjee were reappointed to three-year terms, and Donald Daria was appointed to the vacant seat with a term that ends December of this year.

Urban Forestry Board: Pete Jordan was reappointed to a three-year term, and Donald Daria was appointed to fill one of the two vacant seats. He also will have a three-year term.

By an oversight, there was no vote for the historic preservation commission, but it will be taken in February.
