Thus
far three people have paid their $15 to
file as candidates for the three open
seats on the Wake Forest Town Board –
present Commissioners Velma Boyd and
David Camacho and former commissioner
Rob Bridges. All three filed on Monday
in town hall after the filing period
began last Friday.
Boyd and Camacho were
elected to their present terms in 2003,
Boyd to her second and Camacho to his
first. Bridges lost a bid for a second
term in 2005.
The filing period ends at
noon a week from Friday, July 20,
leaving a lot of opportunity for others
to file. A telephone poll recently done
in town named five other possible
candidates: former commissioner Chris
Malone and planning board members Chris
Kaeberlein, Ward Marotti and Peter
Thibodeau.
Malone, who paid for the
telephone poll, lost his first-term seat
in 2005. Kaeberlein ran for the first
time in 2005, losing to Commissioners
Frank Drake and Margaret Stinnett. If
they choose to run, this would be the
first try for office for Martin, Marotti
and Thibodeau.
The nonpartisan election
will be held Tuesday, Nov. 6, and the
practice has been to swear in the
newly-elected commissioners at the close
of the town board’s regular November
meeting.
Wake Forest commissioners are paid for
their time. Their salary is $6,010 and
they are reimbursed for their mileage
and other expenses connected to their
duties. The mayor’s salary is $8,200. |
