 It will be
a busy weekend

There will be plenty to do in Wake Forest this coming weekend, and the biggest problem may be fitting it all in. Consider the following events and attractions.
  • The Flaherty park tennis center will open Friday evening for three days of events. There will be free food at 6 p.m. Friday, July 13, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7 p.m. The events are sponsored by the Wake Forest Area Tennis Association. You can find a full schedule of events at the association’s web site http://www.wakeforesttennis.com or by calling Tim Medlin at 556-4593.

  • There will be balloons, free horse-drawn carriage rides, entertainment and new art exhibits in downtown Wake Forest Friday, July 13, for Art After Hours. Studios and shops will be open until 9 p.m. for the monthly happening.

  • The Wake Forest Baptist Church is offering free outdoor movie nights this summer, and “Charlotte’s Web” will be shown this Friday, July 13, at the church’s Stephenson Center on Wake Union Church Road. The church provides drinks and popcorn; families should bring blankets or lawn chairs and mosquito repellant. Take N.C. 98 (Durham Road) west toward Durham and turn right only Wake Union Church Road at the animal hospital. The center (no building yet) is ahead on your right.

  • The Slam Jam 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament will be held Saturday, July 14, at the Alston-Massenburg Center at 416 N. Taylor St. The tournament is for children and teens who live in the northeast section of town. Registration begins at 11 a.m. Entertainment will include the St. Augustine Step and Drama Team and the PJM Band.

  • The 2007 Public Safety Fun Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 14, will feature the Wake Forest Police Department and the Wake Forest Fire Department. The event is sponsored by the Shoppes of Heritage – the strip mall on the north side of Rogers Road – which include Triangle Dry Cleaners, DaVinci’s Pork Store and O’Dwyer’s Irish Sports Pub –and will include an array of information about safety.

  • The Wake Forest Farmers’ Market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, July 14, in the South White Street parking lot offering fresh, organic, locally-raised fruits, vegetables, meats and cheese along with flowers, plants, soaps, lotions and pottery.
