The parking lot at the Wake Forest
Library is now open. It had been closed
for construction of a larger lot to
accommodate both the library and the
Northern Regional Center, which is
planned to open early next year.
Library patrons need to make
sure they are registered to vote because
they can help assure a 3,000-square-foot
addition if the planned library bond
issue is approved by voters this fall.
The Wake County Library
System had planned to close the Wake
Forest Library for a month or more this
summer to paint, install new carpet and
make other needed improvements at the
10-year-old library, but those plans are
on hold now because of the proposed bond
issue.
If the bond issue does pass,
“We’re first on the list” for an
addition, Branch Manager Yvonne Allen
said recently. The 3,000-square-foot
addition will be on the east end of the
library, the side nearest Kiwanis Park.
The 10-year-old library was built at
5,000 square feet, a size recognized as
too small at the time.
Allen said all the work –
the addition and the renovations to the
existing library – will be done at the
same time. The amount of the library
bond issue has not been announced.
The opening of the parking
lot was just in time for the library’s
summer programs.
Those summer programs are
geared for youngsters from 6 months
through 18 years and are free, although
registration is required in some
instances.
For the younger set, running from June
11 through Aug. 4

Baby & Me is for infants 6 to 18 months
and a caregiver and the 9:30 a.m.
sessions on Tuesdays feature songs,
finger play, short rhymes and some
books.

Time for Toddlers is a bland of stories
and songs for children 18 to 36 months
at 9:30 a.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays.
·
Fun for preschoolers at 10:30 a.m.
Wednesdays and Thursdays include songs,
stories and games for children 3 through
5.
·
Twilight Tales is a monthly story time
for the entire family one Wednesday a
month at 6:45 p.m. Stop by the desk to
register.
The Summer Reading Club, kindergarten
and up, Mondays at 4:30 p.m. from June
11 through July 30

The Teen Summer Mystery Contests and
Fantasy Teen Book Club
The mysteries include
Einstein’s Riddle (go to
http://www.wakegov.com/teens to find
it) and a photo contest. Take a picture
of any place in Wake Forest and see how
many people can guess where it is.
The Fantasy Teen Book Club
for ages 11 and older will meet three
Friday nights from 7 to 8:30 p.m. For
June 22 the book is “Water Mirror” by
Kai Meyer, for July 20 the book is
“Ropemaker” by Peter Dickinson, and for
Aug. 24 the book is “Harry Potter and
the Deathly Hallows” by J.K. Rowling.
For Murder Mystery@Horrorwood
Studios on Friday, June 15, at 6 p.m.,
teens are asked to dress in their most
frightening evening attire. During the
party, they will deduct which one of
them is the murderer.
The Harry Potter Party
Wednesday, July 25, at 7 p.m. will be a
celebration of the final installment of
Harry Potter.
Mystery Movie Night @ the
Library on Friday, Aug. 10, at 6:45 p.m.
will feature a showing of “Charade” with
Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant.
Registration is required for
these events.
Adults have a program too
The Wake Forest Library Book
Club is open to everyone who likes to
read and meets the last Thursday of the
month at the Wake Forest Chamber of
Commerce at 6:45 p.m.
June’s book is “Nickel and
Dimed” by Barbara Ehrenreich, and July’s
book is “March” by Geraldine Brooks. |
