Area
high school students who are interested
in serving on the newly-formed Youth
Advisory Board during the 1007-2008
school year may apply now on
applications available both at the Wake
Forest Town Hall and at the town’s web
site,
http://www.wakeforestnc.gov/government/
youthadvisoryboard.aspx.
Those applications are due
by Friday, June 29, and must be returned
to Town Clerk Joyce Wilson, MMC, at 401
East Elm Avenue.
The YAB applicants are asked
to attend the town board work session on
July 10 to be introduced and describe
why they wish to serve. The meeting
begins at 5:30 p.m. The town board will
make the appointments at its business
meeting on July 17.
The Youth Advisory Board was
suggested by Mayor Vivian Jones, who
chaired the two recent meetings at which
teenagers expressed their desires to be
included in planning for the town’s
present and future and drew up the
mission for the board.
That mission will include
researching issues of importance to
community young people, presenting those
findings to the town commissioners and
holding informational and fun events for
area youth.
Only high school students
are eligible to serve on the board,
which will have nine members, five of
whom must live in the town limits. Board
members will serve for one year but may
be reappointed.
The youth board will meet
the third Saturday at 9 a.m. at the
Flaherty Park Community Center. The
first meeting will be in August and the
last in June.
