 Wake EMC awards
nine scholarships

Wake Electric Membership Corporation, which serves residential and commercial customers in all or part of seven counties, has awarded scholarships to nine graduating seniors who will attend college in the fall.

The Fred M. Alford Memorial Scholarship of $1,500 was given to Amanda Mae Howard of Kittrell, who graduated from Southern Vance High School.

Eight students received the Touchstone Energy Scholarships of $1,000 each. The recipients are Camille Bartholomew of Wake Forest, a graduate of Neuse Baptist Christian School; Mackenzie Hurley of Youngsville, a graduate of Franklinton High School; Samuel Richards of Zebulon, who graduated from Wake Forest-Rolesville High School; Torrie Thomas of Wake Forest, a graduate of Wake Forest-Rolesville High School; Octavia Mirabel of Franklinton, a graduate of Franklinton High School, Courtney Bailey of Selma, who graduated from Smithfield-Selma High School; Rebecca Elizabeth Marion of Creedmoor, who graduated from North Raleigh Christian Academy; and Kristen Overby of Henderson, who graduated from Southern Vance High School.

The money for the scholarships comes from the generosity of Wake Electric members who have signed up for the Operation Round-Up Program. That program also funds teacher grants and projects for local nonprofit organizations.
