One of the favorites at Six Sundays in
Spring, R&B vocalist Al Williams, will
be on the stage at the Calvin Jones
House Sunday for the Mothers Day
concert.
Williams will be backed up
by a band led by Wake Forest resident
Scott DeMattos.
The Gazette apologizes for
not knowing the featured group for last
week, the Carolina Chocolate Drops, was
not able to perform. Youngsville’s
Freddie Green and his band stepped in at
the last minute and charmed the crowd.
The free, family-friendly
concerts on the lawn at the Wake Forest
College Birthplace – the Calvin Jones
House – on North Main Street begin at 5
and last until 7 p.m.
This is the sixteenth year
for the popular series of six outdoor
concerts sponsored by the Wake Forest
Cultural Arts Association with the
cooperation of the Wake Forest College
Birthplace and support from the Town of
Wake Forest.
Chuck and the WagginEars
will make their debut Six Sundays
appearance on May 20. They are a
well-known group of traditional
musicians led by Chuck Pettee from
Chapel Hill. Several of the group are
also members of the Shady Grove Band,
which performed at Six Sundays several
years ago.
The series will end on May
29 with Molasses Creek, a band from
Ocracoke Island which has been making a
name for itself across the state. They
have also toured nationally.
There are no rain dates. If
it rains or we have some kind of
inclement weather the concert for that
date is cancelled. The president of
Cultural Arts, Kathryn Spiegel, and her
board are hoping for good weather
throughout. |
