 CDC plans large
health fair

“We want it to be the biggest health fair around,” Brendora King, said this week. “We want people to know there are resources out there to help them.”

King and others on staff at the W.E.B. DuBois Community Development Corporation are planning the health fair for Saturday, May 19, in the parking lot at their building on North White Street behind the new CVS drug store.

Booths will be set up ringing the parking lot. The participants thus far – and more will be added – include:

  • Franklin Regional Medical Center for cholesterol and body mass checks.

  • Wake County EMS

  • A nutritionist to help with menus and diets

  • A booth about HIV awareness

  • St. Augustine’s College

  • Shaw University

  • Todd Sanders with information about small businesses

  • Marshall Harvey and housing programs

  • Bettie Murchison with money and money management

  • Miss Lucy Lee from the North Carolina Attorney General’s office with ID kits for children

  • Drug intervention programs with Dr. Janet Young and Dr. Ron Lewis

  • Women’s health with Nancy Bates

  • Children’s seat belt safety

  • Victor Bonis describing legal aid

King said there will also be a variety of activities for children including face-painting and the inflatable jumping room.

For everyone there will be door prizes and food.

Pepsi, Krispy Kreme, Dunkin’ Donuts and Wal-Mart are already signed up as sponsors

The event, of course, is free to everyone.

King said she was disappointed they had not been able to schedule mammogram screenings for this fair, but they are planning to hold a mammogram event in October.

If you want to participate, call King at 556-0709.
