The Friends of the Wake Forest Public
Library will hold their annual meeting
Sunday, April 15, at 2 p.m. in the
courtroom at the Wake Forest Police
Department on East Owen Avenue next to
town hall. Current members and those
interested in becoming members are
encouraged to attend.
The Friends have begun
collecting used books for their annual
used book sale. There was only a partial
list of collection sites by Wednesday,
but those are Premieres Video, Wake
Forest Federal Savings & Loan, SunTrust,
The Wake Weekly, Lowe’s Foods, Food
Lion, Wake Forest Health Club and the
Northern Wake Senior Center.
The sale will be held the
same day as Meet in the Street,
Saturday, May 5, at the former
Winn-Dixie on Brooks Street. Friends
members will be admitted at 8:30 a.m.
and the regular sale will begin at 9
a.m. and run to 3 p.m.

As the regular patrons know,
the parking lot for Wake Forest’s
library is being torn up as part of the
construction for the Northern Regional
Center. The only available parking is on
the street, East Holding Avenue. Parking
on the site – and vehicle access to the
return book deposits – should be
restored in two to three months or
sooner if there is not much rain.
There is a very strong
possibility Wake County commissioners
will call for a bond referendum this
fall for funds to build libraries. If
the referendum is on the ballot and if
it passes, an addition to the Wake
Forest library would be the number-two
project. The library is now 5,000 square
feet, and the addition will add 5,000
square feet.
