 Local farmers, artists
ready for the market

The Wake Forest Farmers’ Market will open at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 7, offering local produce, jams, stained glass, eggs, meat, pastries, flowers, sauces, plants and cheese.

Almost all of the favorite vendors from prior years will be there along with newcomers such as the Sleepy Goat Farm, which will offer artisan goat cheese, both chevre and hard.

The market organizers say there will be 16 vendors on opening day along with musician Paul Davis.

Another 11 vendors will begin selling at the market in the next couple months.

The organizers are planning a number of special events beginning with the May 12 grand opening as the market – and the produce rev up to high gear. There will be a customer appreciation and children’s day June 2, a picnic at the market June 30 when visitors can enjoy tasty dishes made with fresh local ingredients, a summer harvest celebration on July 28, a dueling chef competition featuring garlic on Aug. 18, and the Second Annual Four-Alarm Chili Cook-off on Sept. 29 when the proceeds will benefit the Wake Forest Fire Department.
