The third meeting for the Northeast
Neighborhood Plan will be held Tuesday,
March 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Olive
Branch Baptist Church on East Juniper
Avenue.
Community residents,
property owners and interested town
residents are encouraged to attend and
discuss the draft plan which addresses
the concerns voiced at earlier meetings:
community self-image and pride, home
ownership, neighborhood appearance,
neighborhood safety, neighborhood jobs
and services, redevelopment of the
DuBois Center, transportation and access
to services and jobs and recreation.
The purpose of the plan,
which will be adopted by the town, is to
develop strategies and steps to enhance
the social, cultural and historical
character of the area. It will identify
needed public services and physical
improvements; it will pinpoint
development opportunities to bring
services and jobs to the area.
Clarion Associates from
Chapel Hill was hired by the town to
undertake the study, which has included
several maps of the area, an economic
development report and a housing report.
The Northeast Neighborhood
is north of Wait Avenue and east of
North White Street.
One result of the study
already is the formation of a Northeast
Neighborhood Association. The next
meeting for that group will be Monday,
April 2, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the DuBois
Center gym. The topics will be street
improvements, economic development and
neighborhood housing. |
