Every year the Wake Forest Urban
Forestry Board gives away free tree
seedlings, and this year the Cub Scouts
from Pack 5 will help to distribute
flowering dogwood, eastern redbud,
overcup oak, bald cypress, Southern
sugar maple and persimmon.
Town residents can pick up
the trees, two per person, at town hall
on East Elm Avenue between 8 a.m. and
noon Saturday, March 10. The giveaway is
on a first-come, first-served basis, and
the distribution will end when the
seedlings are gone.
Each tree will have planting
instructions and information about the
trees.
The Urban Forestry Board,
recently renamed from the Tree Board,
sponsors the tree seedling giveaway as
part of its observance of Arbor Day.
The town will celebrate
Arbor Day Thursday, March 22, at 10 a.m.
at the Wake Forest Community House on
West Owen Avenue. The free event is open
to the public.
The Urban Forestry Board is
comprised of area people appointed by
the town board to advise them on proper
maintenance of trees on public property
and along street rights-of-way.
Wake Forest has been
recognized by the National Arbor Day
Foundation as a Tree City USA for 28
consecutive years.
