 Over 70 area artists donating
to March 4 benefit

Lynn Conley, Dick Larsen, Linda Burrell, Shirley Matheny, Amy Sawyer, Leslie Martin, Carole Dubber, Nancy Clausen, Nancy Redman, Marcia Hill, Jim Wallace and Kiki Farrish are among the 70-plus area artists who are donating their works for the art auction at the DuBois Center on March 4.

Lee Holt and his sons are donating two hours of music for a party, Fran Shapiro donated her hand-made quilt, and several people are donating massages, jewelry and consultations about kitchens, gardens and computers.

The entire proceeds for the auction to celebrate John Pelosi’s 70th birthday will go to the new DuBois School of the Arts. That school will be continued and expanded under the direction of Bettie Murchison’s W.E.B. DuBois Community Development Corporation. All donations will be tax-deductible.

The party will begin Saturday, March 4, at 6:30 p.m. at the DuBois Center on North Franklin Street. The $10 tickets, available locally and at the door, entitle each person to heavy hors d’oeuvres provided by the members of the local DuBois Alumni Association chapter and two drinks.

The auction with auctioneer Louis Arthur will begin at 7:30 p.m., and there will also be a raffle. Only cash or checks can be accepted.

Tickets are being sold at the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce and A Taste of North Carolina shops next to each other on South White Street; at jovi’s Kitchen & Market and Sunflower Studio on East Jones Avenue; at Life is Sweet, the confectionery story in The Factory; and at the Purple Poppy florist shop on South Main Street next to McCracken Oil.
