 The editor’s opinion
Guess what?

Someone finally mentioned a centennial committee in the board room at the Wake Forest Town Hall.

The town will have its 100th birthday in 2009 some time before March 1 when the new town board was sworn in back in 1909. It was the same cast of characters that had been meeting as the town board for the Town of Wake Forest College chartered in 1880.

The century mark is usually a significant event for people and towns, and most towns around here spend four or five years planning a celebration. Not Wake Forest. The only hint of it has been a Centennial Park planned with the new town hall.

It was Vicki Grant, the architect with Little Diversified, who mentioned a centennial committee, saying Tuesday night she hoped there would be a centennial committee to help plan Centennial Park.

If not, I think I’ll plan to bake a cake, carry it to town hall and ask passers-by to take a piece and toast the town with some Kool-Aid.
