All of the town served by Wake Forest
Power went dark Saturday, Sept. 30, at
4:47 p.m. when a Progress Energy
transformer tripped off.
Wake Forest crews worked to
restore power as quickly as possible.
Most of the town’s customers had power
restored within an hour and the last
customers, those in the downtown area
along Wait Avenue and Franklin Street
had their power back at 6:40 p.m.
John Thrift, the assistant
public works director, said the town has
called in two consulting firms, Power
Secure and Southeastern Transformer, to
investigate the outage and check the
town’s equipment, most of which is new.
Wake Electric had two outages in the
Olde Mill Stream subdivision on Monday,
Thrift said. The town and Wake EMC both
pull their power from the same Progress
Energy transmission line.
Thrift said the problem is
not an overloaded system. The Progress
Energy transmission line carries 40
million volts, and Thrift said the
town’s use is usually 17 or 18 million
volts, rising to 24 or 24 million volts
during peak use.
An unrelated outage left
about 650 customers without power Sunday
at 4:45 p.m. The affected areas were
north of Stadium Drive and Jenkins Road,
including Staffordshire and Country Club
Downs subdivisions, and south to Wake
Forest Crossings shopping center. Crews
restored power at 5:45 p.m.
The reason was a fault in an
underground switching cabinet. Power to
the area is being rerouted through
another circuit while crews replace the
damaged switching cabinet. |
