It is fall, and that is what leaves are
doing – falling. The town began
collecting them Monday.
For the loose leaf
collection, residents should rake their
leaves into piles at the curb by 7 a.m.
on their neighborhood’s regular yard
waste collection schedule. They should
avoid creating piles in the street,
which are dangerous. The leaves on the
curb must be free of limbs, trash and
debris. Leaf piles should not be more
than four cubic yards per week.
Other yard waste such as
leaves, twigs and grass should be placed
in clear plastic bags or 35-gallon
containers. There should be no more than
10 cans and bags each week and they
should weigh less than 50 pounds each.
Limbs and branches can be
placed at the curb in a separate pile.
Small limbs – 1 to 6 inches in diameter
– must be no longer than 6 feet. Limbs
larger than 6 inches in diameter can be
no more than 2 feet long. Logs are not
to be more than 75 pounds per week and
must not be bigger than 10 inches in
diameter. Crews will not collect tree
stumps.

Mike Barton, the public
works director, said Willie Hughes
usually drives the leaf trucks though
“the division has multiple drivers
available for this truck.”
The town paid about $95,000
for the 2003 truck with its vacuum. “We
are going to be purchasing a new truck
this fiscal year. We have priced the
leaf unit but are waiting for the state
contract to come out for vehicle prices
to mount the unit on,” Barton said.
