 Firemen schedule two
practice burns

The Wake Forest Fire Department has scheduled two practice burns of houses in the downtown area.

On Wednesday, Oct. 18, the firefighters will practice in and then burn the house at 239 E. Jones Ave. that was formerly John Lyon’s Appraisal House.

On Saturday, Oct. 28, the fire department will repeat the same training and burn the house at 221 E. Jones Ave. that was jovi’s Kitchen and Market until recently.

The practice burns have been rescheduled after learning the original dates would interfere with the 2006 Wake Forest Artists Studio Tour and the Autumn Arts Festival.

Both businesses have relocated. Jovi’s can be found at The Cotton Company on South White Street, and the Appraisal House is at 10435 Ligon Mill Road.

The properties are now owned by Renaissance Investors Group LLC – Matt Hale, Mike Johnson and Charles Grant – who are planning a multi-use building combining retail space on the ground floor with condo apartments above and parking in the basement.
