The Gray Jones family reunion will be
held Sunday, Oct. 1, at Flat Rock
Baptist Church at 1529 Flat Rock Church
Road in Franklin County.
Gray and Elizabeth (Dent)
Jones were married in 1850 and were the
parents of 12 children, six boys and six
girls.
The first recorded reunion
of the clan was held on Aug. 24, 1928.
The reunions have been held periodically
since then, and the modern series began
in 1972.
At the 1928 reunion there
were, in addition to the Jones group,
members by marriage of a number of
families: Hicks, Holden (BP from
Holden’s BBQ in Youngsville), Sharp,
Clifton, Hill, Ransdale, Layton, White,
Cheeves, Mullen, Dent, Hinton (Al Hinton
of Wake Forest was there as an unborn
with his mother, Gladys Hinton of
Zebulon), Floyd and Pippin. There were
159 family members and 56 visitors.
The reunion will begin at 1
p.m. with a potluck lunch.
All members of the extended
family are welcome to attend the
reunion, but in order to plan better, we
ask that you call to let us know you are
coming. Call Zeda Bashford at
919-779-2435 or Al Hinton at
919-761-1104.
