The Wake County Library System will be
experiencing a county-wide computer
upgrade Thursday, Sept. 28, and a backup
system will be operating that day.
It means that library
patrons – see below for how many there
are in Wake Forest – will have to use
their library cards to check books out
or to use the computers. Also, the
computer system will not be available
for either computer or telephone
renewals or searches.
Last week Yvonne Allen, the
Wake Forest branch manager, told the
Friends of Wake Forest Public Library,
that 410 new patrons received library
cards at this branch in August and the
branch circulated 43,000 books during
August.
This kind of heavy use is
the reason the Friends have asked the
county library board to expand the Wake
Forest branch, but that expansion is not
planned at this time.
The Friends, however, will
help Allen in creating a Teen Corner, a
comfortable place for teens to read,
listen to audio books and take advantage
of the wireless internet in the near
future. The cost will be about $5,000,
money raised by the Friends through
memberships and the annual book sale in
May.
The Wake Forest Library is
at 400 E. Holding Ave., and the phone is
554-8498. |
