 Sign up for EMS now

Wake County residents will soon receive a form that will save them money on costly ambulance bills, whether they are transported by the six private rescue squads in the county or by the county-wide EMS.

For a $60 subscription fee to the EMS Fund, people will be able to cover their entire household for unlimited emergency 911 ambulance service for a year. A single transport by ambulance can cost over $500. Medicare and health insurance do not always cover this cost.

The subscription forms are being mailed out to county households, and you can also subscribe by calling 856-6205 or going to http://www.wakegov.com. This is the 13th year the county has offered this money-saving option.

Last year the county EMS system answered more than 60,000 calls, and over 45,000 of those calls led to a patient being transported to an emergency department.

Locally, there are two emergency services, the county EMS with paid staff and the private nonprofit Rolesville EMS, which relies on volunteers. All the membership money from the EMS Fund in a squad’s service area goes to that squad.
