Saturday, Aug. 26, the vendors at the
Wake Forest Farmers’ Market will show
their customers how much they are
appreciated, handing out tasty and fun
treats as well as free raffle tickets.
The drawing at noon will
give lucky customers Market Bucks or
other treats from participating downtown
Wake Forest businesses.
Two local Master Gardeners,
Liz Ford and Joyce Clark, will be at the
market to answer questions about
gardening in general, plants, flowers
and trees.
The farmers’ market is held
every Saturday in the gazebo parking lot
on South White Street from 8 a.m. to
noon and features vendors from a 75-mile
radius around town who sell organic
vegetables, fruits and meats as well as
soaps, baked goods and pottery. You can
eat well by eating locally-grown foods.
Through September you can
also purchase maps and buttons for the
Carolina Farm Stewards Association
Triangle East Farm Tour that will be
held the weekend of Sept. 23-24.
On that weekend, on
Saturday, Sept. 23, the first Downtown
Wake Forest Four-Alarm Chili Cook-off
will be held with a cash prize for the
winner based on the judgment of the
five-star panel of judges.
There will also be a special
prize to the chef who uses the most
local ingredients.
There is a $20 entry fee,
and a minimal $2.50 fee for a chafing
dish and heat.
The chili needs to be at the
market between 8 and 9 a.m. for the
tasting that begins at 9:30 with judging
between 10 a.m. and noon. The prizes
will be awarded at noon.
