To the editor:
I have no idea who is
responsible for the generation of the
signs on the new portion of the Wake
Forest bypass but whoever it is needs
some additional insight training. The
new intersection is complicated enough
without signage to help. No signs
directing people to the two shopping
centers don’t help either. I do hope
more signage is in the offing.
When traveling south on Rt.1
as one approaches the bypass there is a
sign before the bypass ramp which
indicates Bunn and nothing else. There
is also another sign telling one to take
the ramp to Bunn (again no mention of
Wake Forest). If I were a traveler, not
familiar with the area, and was headed
to Wake Forest I certainly would never
take the bypass because I would have no
way of knowing it goes to Wake Forest.
I, for one, never heard of Bunn until I
saw the sign. I would, however, like to
know that I could take that same ramp
and arrive in Wake Forest.
There is also an additional
sign after you get on the bypass
indicating Bunn and Nashville (where the
heck is Nashville?). Again no mention of
Wake Forest (not that it would be
necessary if I was told I was headed for
Wake Forest in the first place). Since I
HAVE been told I am headed for Bunn, why
the duplicate sign? (I apologize to the
folks of Bunn and Nashville but even you
must admit that these two places are
probably not thriving metropolises).
There is nothing wrong with mentioning
them on the sign but the bypass DOES
take one to Wake Forest.
There is a sign which
indicates the Wake Forest line but when
one arrives at the stop light at S. Main
St. there is a sign pointing left but no
street sign, no signage telling you
where you are. Do I go right to Wake
Forest, left to Wake Forest or stay
straight on the bypass to Wake Forest.
The answer, of course is ‘yes’ but it
sure would be nice to know which way to
go to get to where I am supposedly
going. Any hint would be helpful.
Who the heck generates these
signs? Have they ever gone to the
location to see what might be
appropriate or were they just as
confused as the rest of us?
