Post 8466 wants all your slightly used
furniture, crock pots, coffee makers,
workout clothes you never quite got to
use, tools, toys and whatever else is
cluttering up your house.
The veterans are planning an
extravaganza of a yard sale this fall,
and they will use the money they raise
to send our troops in Iraq and
Afghanistan phone cards and goodies.
“In addition,” Chuck Walkley
said, “we will use the money to
refurbish medical equipment such as
electric carts, wheelchairs, walkers and
lots more and donate these to veterans’
homes in our state. We also sponsor
local youth programs such as Little
League teams and cheerleaders.”
That is not all. “We are
also running a program for needy local
members of the community who may need
some of the medical equipment we have.
If they can’t afford to buy the
equipment and we have it, we will make
the equipment available at no cost for
as long as needed.
“You can see why this is a
passion for us. There are a lot of great
rewards from this,” Walkley said.
They have lots of storage
space to keep all the goods until Oct.
20-22 when the sale will occur. Bob and
Elizabeth Johnson are allowing them to
use the back part of their warehouse on
South White Street.
Johnson, who is helping to
promote the yard sale, said his former
tenant, Jeann Beasley’s Operation
Harvest, has finally moved out but left
a number of things behind which he has
donated to the sale.
The Road Less Traveled
Theatre troupe has moved into the front
of the warehouse.
