It
is that time of year again, time to make
plans for the Fourth of July, and in
Wake Forest that means being part of the
all-volunteer celebration that has been
held since 1973.
For those new in the area,
the festivities include a entertainment
and fireworks in Trentini Stadium one
evening and a children’s parade up and
down North Main Street, usually held the
following morning, followed by art
activities and games at Holding Park.
These are all entirely
manned by volunteers; the two-day event
is funded by the receipts from last
year’s stadium show, by donations and
sponsors and by $3,000 from the Town of
Wake Forest.
Chairman Rhonda Alderman is
asking for volunteers to help sell
tickets at the gate for the fireworks
and stadium show and to plan and
supervise Art-in-the-Park and
Games-in-the-Park.
A logistical problem this
year is caused by the closing of Stadium
Drive, a major access to the stadium
behind Wake Forest-Rolesville High
School. Alderman said they would have to
heavily advertise the alternate ways to
the stadium from Capital Boulevard (U.S.
1), which include Durham Road (N.C. 98),
Harris Road and Will Wall Road.
If you want to be a part of
this grassroots, hometown effort, you
can reach Alderman at 556-4436 or
fireworklady@aol.com. It was
incorrect in recent stories.
Alderman said the committee
will meet tonight, May 24, and will have
information about dates, locations of
pre-sale tickets and other information
for next week’s issue. |
