One of Wake Forest’s quieter charitable
organizations is the Koinonia Foundation
which began in 1990 after members of a
Wake Forest Baptist Church Sunday School
class organized it as a
nondenominational Christian organization
dedicated to spreading the gospel of
Christ by serving others, providing
support to individuals and to other
organizations.
In its earlier days,
foundation members such as Jim Adams and
other builders constructed houses and
then auctioned them to raise money.
These days, the foundation
relies on two auctions, silent and live,
and this year they will be held
Saturday, Jan. 28, beginning at 6:30
p.m. at The Forks Cafeteria. Tickets are
$25 each for the auction and a dinner
buffet. Donated items already include
art and jewelry.
The goal again is $50,000.
Koinonia has a number of
ways to use the money. Those include
Operation Harvest on South White Street
where needy people can get donated food,
tutorial programs at the DuBois Center
and Massey Apartments, Meals on Wheels
and the Wake Forest Boys & Girls Club.
The group also works with
ChurchNet when it refers cases of
individual need to the foundation.
