One of Wake Forest’s most successful
fun-raising and fund-raising events,
Hoops for Wake Forest, will hit the
streets for the 11th year on
Saturday, May 20.
Teams of all ages are
invited to participate in the 3-on-3
basketball tournament that benefits
local nonprofit and civic organizations.
Teams can find the registration forms at
http://www.hoopsforwakeforest.com or
pick them up at the Wake Forest
Healthclub at 2109 S. Main St. Children
12 and younger play for free, and the
registration fee is affordable.
In the past 10 years, Hoops
has raised over $100,000 for local
organizations. This year’s tournament
will benefit the Wake Forest Woman’s
Club, Wake Forest Kiwanis Club, Wake
Forest Rotary Club, Wake Forest Junior
Women’s Club and the WF-R High School
Band Boosters. In past years, the money
raised has helped fund a summer camp for
disadvantaged children, the local DARE
program, Shop with a Cop, Camp Kanata,
Tri-Area Ministries, the WF-R High
School Band and Kiwanis Park, plus
others.
This year’s grand sponsor,
returning for third consecutive year, is
WSR Realty Services, the group which
developed Wake Pointe Shopping Center
(Wal-Mart). There are also many other
sponsors at different levels.
The tournament is made
possible by the volunteers from local
organizations and individual volunteers
who want to help a worthy cause.
The result is an event where
the downtown Wake Forest streets are
flooded with over 600 players, 2,000
spectators and over 100 volunteers.
Tournament winners receive trophies and
everyone gets a T-shirt with the Hoops
logo and name. |
