The state Forestry Service has issued a
red flag warning against burning of any
kind as dry, windy conditions here and
across the state continue to pose a fire
hazard.
Wake Forest Fire Chief David
Williams Jr. said Monday the department
has not had a lot of brush fires.
“I guess a lot of people are
using a lot of good sense,” Williams
said. But, “If we don’t have some rain,
we’re certainly going to have some
problems.”
The members of the
department are going to be busy Friday,
April 21, when they hold the
department’s annual fish fry from 11
a.m. to 7 p.m. at Station #1 on Elm
Avenue. For $7, people can buy a plate
of fried flounder, cole slaw, hush
puppies and potatoes along with a glass
of iced tea. The baked goods prepared by
members of the women’s auxiliary and
friends will be sold separately.
Williams said the department
usually raises about $15,000 from the
meals. There will be no raffle this
year.
He is still waiting to hear
the cause of the March 22 fire at 7516
Welcome Drive in Waterfall Plantation
off Thompson Mill Road, but he said the
county fire inspector’s office may have
some information later this week. |
