Stadium Drive will be closed to through
traffic after 8 a.m. Monday, April 3,
and the state Department of
Transportation has decided to use Harris
Road, North Main and North Avenue as the
signed detour.
You can see the rather
complicated directions by going to the
DOT web site at
http://apps.dot.state.nc.us/tims/IncidentDetail.aspx?id=23874.
Local drivers may also find it
convenient to use Durham Road (N.C. 98)
and Wingate Street.
Information on the web site
also indicates the construction company
plans to work seven days a week from 7
a.m. to 6 p.m. The completion date is
Aug. 24.
Wake Forest Fire Chief David
Williams Jr. said Wednesday the
department has decided not to station a
fire truck and firefighters on the west
side of the bridge, using an apartment
provided by the seminary.
After driving the area and
checking other routes, Williams said the
department had determined their response
times to the west side of town would not
be slowed by using routes other than
Stadium.
The contract for the bridge
reconstruction was won by Balfour Beatty
Construction Inc. for $1,141,692. Deputy
Town Manager Roe O’Donnell said the
bridge will be built to a 40-foot width
or three lanes wide.
Widening Stadium Drive to
three lanes “with interspersed median
trees” to resemble the section of North
Main Street just north of the seminary
is the number six project on the town’s
transportation plan adopted in 2003. The
cost was then estimated at just over $2
million. |
