During Wake Forest’s Arbor Day
celebration on March 16, a club, a
company and two people were given Green
Medal Awards for their work in promoting
the town’s urban forest.
The Wake Forest Woman’s Club
was given the civic award, Jordan Tree
Care the corporate award, and Hughen
Nourse and Liz Ford were the co-winners
of the community forester award. Three
of the winners are members of the town’s
Urban Forestry Board (formerly the Tree
Board): Ford, chairman Nourse and Pete
Jordan, who owns Jordan Tree Care.
The winners of the poster
contest, all of them students at Wake
Forest Elementary, were announced during
the ceremony at the Community House.
Liam Finn, a second grader, was chosen
as having the best poster, and his
design can be seen on the T-shirts that
Urban Forestry Board members and town
commissioners received. This year’s
theme was Trees are Terrific … In All
Shapes and Sizes. Brett Zack, a third
grader, was honored for the most
creative poster, and Elisa King, a
second grader, was given honorable
mention. Each of the winners received a
plaque and a $50 savings bond.
The town also received its
27th consecutive Tree City
USA Award and its 13th
consecutive Growth Award. |
