To the editor:
Just wanted to thank you for
publishing the "thank you" from Mrs.
Karas in your editorial section (in
Volume 4, Number 7, Feb. 15). The
gratuity given is not just a tribute to
our organization, but also is shared by
the many professional (volunteer and
career) men and women of the other local
fire departments, EMS, and law
enforcement organizations who
unselfishly "do" the same each and every
day. As a native of the Stony Hill
community, I can say we all are truly
blessed by the caliber of emergency
services located in our area.
Just one clarification
though, regarding Stony Hill's
fund-raising efforts (for community
awareness).
Stony Hill Fire Department
does have an active Auxiliary program
that performs an annual fundraiser by
selling photo portrait
opportunities within the
community. Although we are supported by
Wake County Fire Tax funds for
operations, we are held to a strict
budget by Wake County. The funds raised
by our Auxiliary are used for
firefighter specific needs and
departmental equipment upgrades that are
not regularly covered in the Wake County
appropriated budget.
Thank you,
A.C. Rich
Fire Chief
Stony Hill Rural
Fire Department, Inc.
(I owe Chief Rich an
apology. His letter was not published
earlier because I had suspended
publication for two weeks and then
forgot about his letter last week Mrs.
Karas’ husband suffered severe chest
pains, but fast action by Stony Hill F
First Responders and EMS saved his
life.) |
