Mary Jane Leggett Thorp
Mary Jane Leggett Thorp, 82, of Youngsville died Saturday, August 27, 2011, at her home. She was born in DeWitt County, Illinois, the daughter of the late John and Iva Stone Leggett, and was married to Fred C. Thorp, who preceded her in death.
A private memorial service was held on Monday evening, August 29, 2011, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
Mrs. Thorp is survived by her children, Steve Thorp and John Thorp of Youngsville, Maryland Thorp, Janet Michael, Wayne Thorp and Paul Thorp and wife, Beth, all of Raleigh; sister, June Karr of Illinois, and brother, Vernon Leggett of Florida; grandchildren, Stephany, Todd, Brian, Jenni, Nicki, Stacey, Randy, Kurtis, Justin, Adam and Joseph; andgreat-grandchildren, Tyler, Liana, Kayla, Shayla and Donte’.

Alfonso ‘Al’ Figueroa
Alfonso Emilio “Al” Figueroa, 42, of Wake Forest died Sunday, August 28, 2011. He was born in Cuba, was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and worked for Alcatel
Funeral services were held at 4 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, August 30, 2011, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial was in Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.
Al is survived by his wife and devoted partner for 17 years, Deme Rochelle Figueroa; children, Emilio Figueroa, Blake Dickerson and Alexander Figueroa, all of Wake Forest; parents, Olga and Armando Figueroa of California; brother, Lanker Figueroa and wife, Tammy, of California; sisters-in-law, Cherie Richard of Butner and Beverlee Carpenter of Swansboro; grandfather, Emilio Boveda of California; and his aunt, Gisela Beaton and husband, Hugo, of California. He was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Sandy Stone.

Vondelle M. Davis
Vondelle Marguerite Davis, 77, of Raleigh, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2011 at Rex Hospital. She was born in Saskatchewan
Funeral services were held at 6 o’clock Tuesday evening, August 31, 2011, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her daughter, Mary Terese Davis Baker and fiancé, William H. Black Jr., of Wake Forest; son, Kirk Davis and wife, Debbie, of Minnesota; half-brother, Dennis Hazelton and wife, Nancy, of British Columbia, Canada, and their son, Sean Hazelton; stepsister, Polly Fagen of New York; grandchildren, Brandon Baker of Portland, Oregon, Joshua Baker of Wake Forest, Andrew Davis of Arizona, Stephen Davis of California, Matthew Davis of Minnesota and Roberta “Bobbie” Davis of Minnesota. She was also preceded in death by her step-father, Henry C. Petteys, Canada, the daughter of the late Harry William Hazelton and Mary Florence Petteys.

William Henry Hagwood
William Henry Hagwood, 76, of Raleigh, died Wednesday, August 25, 2011, at Wake Medical Center.
He was born in Franklin County, the son of the late Luther J. Hagwood and Aurelia Hudson Hagwood. Mr. Hagwood was a longtime member of Oak Level Christian Church, where he served in numerous roles and was best known for cooking breakfast. He was a mess sergeant in

Mr. Hagwood is survived by his sons, Billy Hagwood of Durham and Robert Hagwood of Atlanta, Ga., and their families; his sister, Margaret Houlder of Overland Park, Kan.; and by numerous nieces, nephews, friends and extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eudean “Dean” Young Hagwood.

Patricia A. “Sis” Hill
Patricia Abbott “Sis” Hill, 66, of Youngsville, died Wednesday August 24, 2011, at Duke Medical Center.
he was born in Vance County, the daughter of the late Ida Pearl Burnette Abbott and Clyde “Jack” Abbott. She was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church and of the Dorcas Sunday School class. Her Sunday School class and her teacher, Buddy Mitchell were very special to her.
Funeral services were held at 11 o’clock Saturday morning August 27, 2011, at Flat Rock Baptist Church with Rev. Gary McNair officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
he is survived by her husband, Morris Hill; brothers, Jack Abbott and wife, Janice, of Manson, Jerry Abbott and wife, Star, of Louisburg, Billy Abbott and wife, Teresa, of Franklinton and Ronnie Abbott and wife, Margaret, of Raleigh; half-brother, Edward Drake of Hendersonville; uncles, Ronald Burnette and Johnson Burnette, both of Louisburg, and Johnny Burnette of Goldsboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lillian Miller
Mrs. Lillian Miller of Youngsville was born September 24, 1916, in Caledonia, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of late Stanley and Julia Jones. Mrs. Miller was raised in Smithers, British Columbia, Canada, before moving to Western New York State. Lillian married Dana S. Wentworth and had two children, Gwendolyn and David. She worked for many years at Daystron Furniture in New York. She enjoyed raising her children, artwork (ceramics, oil painting and other craft work) and re-modeling her home until her husband, Dana, passed in October 5, 1964.
In November 1967 Mrs. Miller married Harold T. Miller. They relocated to Zephyrhills, Florida, and built their home. They enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada until Harold’s passing in December 16, 1992.
Mrs. Miller is a member of the Eastern Star and was Worthy Matron in 1955. She was a member of the Zephyrhills Woman Club, serving as president from 1999 to 2000. Lillian was a member of the Zephyrhills Tourist Club and the Zephyr Christian Church.
A longtime friend, Charlie Goeden, traveled around the world with Lillian. They loved playing cards and Dancing at the Tourist Club.
Mrs. Lillian Miller is survived by her son, David (Rose) Wentworth of California; daughter, Gwendolyn (Al) Vogel of Iowa; five grandchildren, Dana Speta (New York), Michael ( Kathy) Speta of New York, Larry (Darleen) Speta of Arizona, Carolyn (Terry) Wheelock and Martin Speta of North Carolina; 11 great-grandchildren, three great-great granddaughters, and one great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruby, Rita and Doris.
Mrs. Lillian Miller will be laid to rest in Friendship, New York, with her husband Dana Wentworth.

June Doreen Moore, 35, of Louisburg died Wednesday, August 23, 2011, at Duke Medical Center. She was born in Sacramento, California, the daughter of Dalton and Martha Weaver Moore.
A memorial service honoring her life was held at 4 o’clock Saturday afternoon, August 27, 2011, at the White Dove Chapel in Wendell with the Rev. Dr. Mike Jones officiating.
June is survived by her parents, Dalton and Martha Moore; sister, Kelley Hall and husband, Darryl, of Raleigh; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Katherine Keith Sykes
Katherine Keith Sykes, 89, died Monday, August 29, 2011, at her residence. She was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late Eva Ray Keith and Lucious Keith, and was preceded in death by her husband, Noih Sykes.
Funeral services will be held 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, September 1, 2011, at Faith Harvest Church with Rev. Brad Wiggs and Rev. Dean Perry officiating. Burial will follow in the Sykes Family Cemetery.
Mrs. Sykes is survived by her sons, Jake Sykes and wife, Donnie, and Gene Sykes and wife, Ann, all of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Lisa Wiggs and husband, Brad, Kim Davis and husband, Earl, all of Raleigh, Gina Freeman and husband, Kerry, of Wake Forest, Angela Perry and husband, Dean, of Sneads Ferry; and nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit with the family from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at Faith Harvest Church, 4737 Willeva Drive, Wake Forest, NC 27587.
