Donald C. Lake Sr.
Donald Charles Lake Sr., 61, of Youngsville died on August 8, 2010.
Donald was born on August 26, 1948, in Broome County, N.Y. He was a veteran of the United States Marines and served in Vietnam. He was also a Grand Knight with the Father James D. Campbell O.P. Council #13511 of the Knights of Columbus.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 o’clock Thursday morning, August 12, 2010, at Saint Eugene Catholic Church, Wendell. Burial will be at 12 o’clock, Friday, August 13, 2010, at the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
Mr. Lake is survived by his wife, Cynthia “Cindy” Vickery Lake; children, Donald Charles “Donnie” Lake Jr. of Smithfield, Erin Kathleen Johnson of Raleigh, Eric Daniel Lake and wife, Emmie, of Yelm, Wash., and J.R. Vickery of Wilmington; parents, Walter and Inez Christian Lake of Owego, N.Y.; siblings, Mary Brink of Nichols, N.Y., Shirley Lake of Owego, N.Y., Robert Lake and wife, Eileen, of Sanford, and Barbara Cicchelli and husband, Joe of Pittsburg, Pa.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Barbara Vickery of Laurens, S.C.; and four grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Father James D. Campbell O.P. Council #13511 of the Knights of Columbus, 460 Fox Park Road, Louisburg, NC 27549 or to Saint Eugene Catholic Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 188, Wendell, NC 27591.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday evening, Aug. 11, 2010, with a Prayer Service at 8:30 at Bright Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 405 S. Main St., Wake Forest.
Cora Keith Bailey
Cora Francis Keith Bailey, 83, of Raleigh passed away on Saturday, August 7, 2010, at Wake Medical Center.
he was born in Granville County, the daughter of Zebulon Vance Keith and Mollie Frances Keith. Mrs. Bailey was a graduate of Wilton High School as salutatorian and attended Hardbarger Business College. She was a licensed cosmetologist and retired from the Woolworth Company.
he was a long time member of Bay Leaf Baptist Church, and was actively involved at Bay Leaf Baptist Church in the Senior Women’s Class and in many Senior Citizen activities. Ms. Bailey was a loving wife and mother and will be sorely missed by her family and friends. She was loved by all and had a wonderful giving heart and spirit.
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, August 9, 2010, at Bay Leaf Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Ms. Bailey is survived by her son, Leland Wayne Bailey and wife, Connie, of Apex; daughter, Roxanne Beth Woolard and husband, Merton Woolard Jr., of Linden; grandchildren, Clifton Bailey, Meredith Jones and husband, Eric, Merton Woolard III and Amelia Woolard; her brother, Claxton Keith of Wake Forest; and her sister, Joyce Strickhouser and husband, Donald Strickhouser, of Rocky Mount. She was preceded in death by her husband Worth Noel Bailey

James Norman Perry
James “Jim” N. Perry, 83, of Raleigh entered into the glorious presence of his Lord and Savior on August 5, 2010. He was surrounded by his beautiful bride of almost 60 years, Shirley Bradshaw Perry; daughter, Carol P. Dysart and Eddie; son, Doug Perry and former wife, Rita; daughter, Becky P. Sink and Bob; daughter, Darlene P. Takacs and Larry; 13 grandchildren and three of their spouses; one great-granddaughter; his brother, Frank Perry and wife, Juanita, and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was born in Washington, D.C., to Harvey and Dorothy Perry on Aug. 3, 1927. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science from the District of Columbia Teacher’s College in 1961, Bachelor of Divinity Degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1965, Master of Education Degree from Duke University in 1967, and Doctorate of Education Degree from Duke University in 1971. He served in the U.S. Army from October 1946 to February 1948.
He was licensed to preach the gospel at Metropolitan Baptist Church in 1954, which is now known as Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. The First Baptist Church of Suitland, Maryland, ordained Dr. Jim to the gospel ministry in 1955. He pastored two Baptist churches in Maryland – Clinton Baptist Church in Clinton and Morningside Baptist Church in Morningside – and Corinth Baptist Church in Oxford, N.C. In addition to his pastoral service, Dr. Jim was principal of two middle schools in Oxford and Durham. He also served for 14 years as the academic dean at Peace College in Raleigh. In 1983, Dr. Jim started his own building business, James. N. Perry Builders Inc., and built many custom homes in North Raleigh. Dr. Jim was called by Bay Leaf Baptist Church to be Minister to Senior Adults and served in that role with great joy. Jim’s passions in life were his loving wife, his family and serving the Lord.
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, August 10, 2010, at Bay Leaf Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery with military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolence Fund or to Missions at Bay Leaf Baptist Church. As Jim would say, “GLORY!”

Hazel Eddins Hobbs
Hazel Eddins Hobbs, 70, of Youngsville, unexpectedly went home to meet her Lord and Savior Saturday morning, August 7, 2010.
he was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late Lacy Scarboro Eddins and Harvey Glen “Bo” Eddins, and was a member of Freedom Life Church in Henderson where she was active in the choir.
Hazel was a retired nutritionist and had a passion for helping others spiritually and physically, and had a strong desire to teach others better nutrition. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend who desired to see her family happy.
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon August 9, 2010, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Holmes and the Rev. Jeff Prewer officiating. Burial was in the Rolesville Baptist Church Cemetery.
he is survived by her daughter, Angela Pearce of Youngsville; son, Billy Ray Pearce and wife, Melynda, of Rolesville; stepson, Billy Wayne Pearce of Wilmington; granddaughters, Meghan Pearce and Rebecca Alford; great-granddaughter, Ellie White; sisters, Marian E. Hicks of Rolesville and Alice E. Clark of Knightdale; one niece and several nephews.
Pallbearers were Spencer Strickland, Chad Strickland, Rob Stover, Gary Clark, Charlie Norwood and Brooks Pearce.

Teresa Gail Avery
Teresa Gail Avery, 45, of Wake Forest, died August 3, 2010, at Duke Health Raleigh Hospital. She was born on February 25, 1965 in Durham County and was a graduate of ECPI. She was employed at Duke Primary Care Brier Creek as a Financial Care Counselor.
A memorial visitation was held on Friday evening, August 6, 2010, at Bright Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
Teresa is survived by her daughter, Heather Avery of Wake Forest; mother, Gloria Rich Avery of Wake Forest and other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Lloyd Thomas Avery, and by her husband, Ronnie Thompson.
