Lacy Bell Massey Wall
Lacy Bell Massey Wall, 97, of Wake Forest died Sunday, June 27, 2010, at Hillside Nursing Center.
he was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late Birta Norwood Massey and Frank Kearney Massey Sr. Mrs. Wall was retired from the Royal Cotton Mill.
he was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard William Wall; sisters, Lillie Massey, Nellie Marshall, Ethel Hunter, Ruby Hicks and Pearl Horton; brothers, Lonnie Massey, Bruce Massey, Frank Massey Jr. and Robert Massey; half-sister, Louise Smith; and half-brother, Andrew Massey.
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, June 30, 2010, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Faile officiating. Burial was in Wake Forest Cemetery.
Mrs. Wall is survived by her daughters, Gladys W. Timberlake of Youngsville, Alice W. Alford and husband, Luther Alford Jr., of Wake Forest, Jerry W. Bright and husband, Rodney, of Durham and Peggy W. Privette and husband, Curtis, of Youngsville; son, William E. Wall and wife, Alva, of Wake Forest; half-brother, Alexander “Dick” Massey of Wake Forest; half-sisters, Shirley Nance of Wake Forest, Edith Denson of Charlotte and Rose Bailey of Greensboro; and five grandchildren. eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Helen Cooke
Mary Helen Rogers Cooke, 83 of 758 Cooke Road, Louisburg, died Thursday, June 24, 2010, at Louisburg Nursing Center. 
he was born in Franklin County, the daughter of the late Will and Bertha Privette Rogers. She was raised in the Junior Order of United Mechanics of America Home in Lexington and was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, June 27, 2010, at the Flat Rock Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary McNair officiating. Burial was in the Wheeler & Cooke Family Cemetery.
Mrs. Cooke was preceded in death by her husband, I.D. Cooke Jr., and is survived by her children, Wade and Darline Cooke Puckett of Louisburg, Darrell and Donna Cooke of Louisburg and Tony and Vivian Cooke of Louisburg; sister, Diza Morris of Denton; brother, Milton E. Rogers of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Mark and Denise Cooke, Angie and Joey Wooten, Steve and Kelly Hommel, Dale and Danielle Gilleland, Denette Cooke Brinkley, Derrick and Kristi Cooke, Amie Cooke and Aaron Cooke; and great-grandchildren, Megan Hommel, Samantha Cooke, Stephanie Hommel, Erica Goswick, Addison Goswick, Katie Hommel, Jonathan Brinkley, Christian Gilleland, Emily “Sassy” Wooten, Caroline Brinkley, Ian Cooke, Maddox Gilleland and Izzie Cooke.

Pallbearers were Steve Hommel, Mark Cooke, Aaron Cooke, Derrick Cooke, Joey Wooten and Dale Gilleland.

George R. “Buddy” McCarty
George R. “Buddy” McCarty, 71, of Southern Granville County went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Thursday, June 24, 2010. 
Buddy was born in Athens, Ga. He loved to play golf, enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and cooking on the grill and was well known for his barbecue and fried turkeys. He loved gardening and especially loved spending time with family and friends. He was a wonderful husband, father and loved spending time with His grandchildren.
Buddy and his wife, Sis, were blessed to have a marriage of 53 wonderful years. Sis and Buddy doted on each other and were very giving and loving to anyone, it did not matter who you were or what you needed. Buddy was always there with his quick smile, wit and warm personality. Buddy will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Over the years Buddy has been blessed working with many wonderful people at various jobs including the Wake County Public School System, Orkin Exterminating Company and McCarty Exterminating Company in Birmingham, Ala. Buddy has many honored distinctions, some of which are being a member of the Urban IPM Advisory Committee which is a state-wide Cooperative Extension Service. He was instrumental in implementing educational programs emphasizing IPM approaches to pest control for urban pesticide applicators. He was a member of the Oxford Presbyterian Church. Buddy served proudly in the Air Force for four years in the National Security Service Division.
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, June 28, 2010, at Oxford Presbyterian church with the Rev Alan Koeneke officiating. Burial followed in Wake Forest Cemetery.
Buddy is survived by his wife, Sis, of Granville County; son, Michael McCarty and Ronda of Granville County; late son, Tim McCarty; a sister, Peggy Clem of Apex; sister-in-law, Anne McCarty of Raleigh; brothers-in-law, Buck Bradberry and wife, Mary, of Hendersonville and John Srakocic and late wife, Dorothy, of Etna, Penn.; 19 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Hospice of Wake County for their wonderful care.

     Pallbearers were William Love, Stephen Love, Joshua Robbins, Ethan Robbins, Michael Robbins, Mike Robbins, Tink Mangum and Bob Bradberry.

Jane F. Stainback
Jane Freeman Stainback, 74, of Toano, Va., formerly of Jamestown, N.C., died Wednesday, June 23, 2010.
he was born in Franklin County, the daughter of the late Myrtle Cooke Freeman and Lenno Raye Freeman. She was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church and was married to Ralph D. Stainback Sr., who preceded her in death.
A memorial service was held at 11 o’clock Friday morning, June 25, 2010, at Flat Rock Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary McNair officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Stainback is survived by her son, R. D. Stainback Jr. and wife, Bonnie, of Toano, Va.; brother, Howell Freeman and wife, Mary Alice, of Selma; sisters-in-law, Linda Freeman of Windsor, Va., and Patricia S. Hart and husband, Tommy, of Louisburg; and brother-in-law, Bill Stainback of Raleigh.

Marco J. Scalzo
Marco J. Scalzo, 90, of Raleigh, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 21, 2010. 
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Norah. Marco was a man of quiet faith who valued and loved his family and friends all of whom will miss his ready smile and wry wit. He was a WW II veteran who served his country six years, spending four years in the Pacific Front. 
A service honoring his life was held at 11:30 Wednesday morning, June 30, 2010, at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester, N.Y.
He is survived by his daughter, Rosemary Pettis of Raleigh; son, Mark Scalzo and wife, Linda, of Rochester; grandchildren, Mathew Pettis and wife, Susan, of Raleigh, Lisa Pettis Keese and husband, John, of Raleigh,  Melanie Way of Rochester, Jennifer Sherman and husband, Todd, of Rochester and Norah Pritchard and husband, Thomas, of Rochester; and 12 great-grandchildren.
