Willie L. Fleming
Willie L. Fleming, 93, of Wake Forest, died Monday, April 19, 2010, at his home. He was born Dec. 12, 1916, the son of the late Lewis and Minta Dunn Fleming.
Mr. Fleming served with the 364th Engineer Regiment in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was married to the late Sarah Lee Richardson Fleming. He joined Friendship Chapel Baptist Church at an early age. He was a member of the American Legion.
Mr. Fleming worked at the Wooten’s Hometel until retirement. After retirement, he continued to work with the Wooten family and many others on the south side of Wake Forest, on South Main and Brooks streets and at the Wake Forest United Methodist Church.
Mr. Fleming is survived by a special granddaughter, Carmen Hall, of the home: children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving relatives and friends.
The funeral was April 24 at Friendship Chapel Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Thomas J. Pendergrass
Thomas Jordan Pendergrass, 82, of Wake Forest, died Sunday afternoon, May 2, 2010, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Warren County, the son of the late Willie Frank Pendergrass and Bessie Grissom Pendergrass. He was preceded in death by a son, George Thomas Pendergrass, and by a sister and a brother.
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon May 4, 2010, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Al Thomas officiating. Burial was in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Pendergrass is survived by his wife, Erlene Knight Pendergrass; a son, Donald Ray Pendergrass and wife, Carla, of Youngsville; brothers, Willis Albert Pendergrass of New Port, Tenn., James Albert Pendergrass of Wilmington and Jack Pendergrass of Kernersville; sisters, Hester Robinson of Virginia and Mary Ann Kearney of Henderson; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Alberta J. Mitchell
Alberta Johnson Mitchell, 94, Youngsville, died Saturday, May 1, 2010.
Mrs. Mitchell was born in Franklin County, the daughter of the late Albert Sidney and Kate Alice Johnson. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lubin Eric Mitchell, and by her son, Mikeal Dorell Mitchell.
A graveside funeral service was held at 11 o’clock Monday morning, May 3, 2010, at the Mitchell Family Cemetery with the Rev. Johnny Smith officiating
Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her children, Lubin Halton Mitchell and wife, Barbara, of Youngsville, Phyllis Mitchell Beatty and husband, Lennie, of Mt. Holly and Jewell Mitchell Coates and husband, Gary, of Raleigh; brother S.J. Perry of Berlin, Md.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Constance Mitchell of Rolesville.

David Ellis Bryant
David Ellis Bryant, 62, of 715 Red Horse Way, Wake Forest, died unexpectedly on Wednesday April 28, 2010, at his home.
Mr. Bryant was born on October 20, 1947, in Northampton County and was a veteran of the United States Army.
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon, May 1, 2010, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial was in the New Light Baptist Church Cemetery.
urvivors include his sons, Jason Bryant of Warrenton and Scott Bryant and wife, Sarah, of Wake Forest; father, Carroll Bryant of Rich Square; brother, Linwood Bryant and wife, Evelyn, of Rich Square; brother-in-law, Buck Futrell of Rich Square; granddaughter, Georgia Mae Bryant; and former wife, Gail Bryant of Raleigh. He was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel Bryant, and by his sister, Gladys Futrell.

Mary Catto Walsh
Mary Beryl Catto Walsh, age 84, of Raleigh, died on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at Brighton Gardens of Raleigh. Mrs. Walsh was born on April 1, 1926, in England, the daughter of the late Adam Catto and Beryl Attenborough Catto.

Aubrey Leonard Gay
Aubrey Leonard Gay, 71, of 5500 Hopkins Chapel Road, Zebulon, died on May 3, 2010.
Mr. Gay was born on May 17, 1938, to the late Irey Leonard Gay and Ruth King Gay. He attended Louisburg College and later graduated from North Carolina State University. He taught at Aycock School in Vance County, worked with the W.R. Grace Chemical Company and retired from Franklinton High School in Franklinton.
During his life he traveled to 113 different countries, in all the 50 states, all the provinces in Canada and visited 150 different national parks. Mr. Gay vacationed 38 years at Lake Gaston. He was a member of the Travel Century Club, Little River Historical Society, and Carolina’s Louis & Clark where he also served as treasurer for ten years, Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, Traveler’s Protection Agency and was the volunteer photographer for the Hopkins Fire Department. Aubrey never met a stranger and had a great interest in history and geography and enjoyed talking about his travels.
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, May 5, 2010, at Hopkins Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Earl Roach and the Rev. Norris Cook officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Gay is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marie Nicholson Gay; two cats, Lewis and Clark; dog, Barry; aunt, Dorothy “Dot” Rhodes; two nephews; and numerous cousins.
