Rachel P. Harper
Rachel Pearce Harper of Thomasville, formerly of Youngsville, passed away on Monday, April 12, 2010, surrounded by the love of God, her family and friends. She was born June 8, 1947, the daughter of the late Willie S. and Eunice Holmes Pearce of Youngsville.
On August 22, 1964, she married Robert D. Harper, who survives her. Their lives brought them to the Hight Point area in 1967. Her career as a lab technician began as a graduate of W. W. Holding Technical Institute. She was employed at High Point Regional Hospital; the office of Dr. L. S. Averette; and for 26 years with Piedmont Urological Associates, where she founded the Rachel P. Harper Laboratory.
Her husband’s career with the N.C. Highway Patrol led her to be a charter member of the N.C. Highway Patrol Ladies Auxiliary, where she was an active member until her death. Rachel was also a past president of the High-Point Chapter of Medical Assistants.
Her greatest joys in life were her family and friends, and she shared with her husband a love for classic cars. She was a member of Youngsville United Church of Christ.
A graveside funeral service was held at 1 o’clock Thursday afternoon, April 15, 2010, at the Youngsville Cemetery with Mr. Wade Fuller officiating.
In addition to her husband, Rachel is survived by two sons, R. Dwayne Harper Jr. and wife, Robin, of Trinity and S. Travis Harper and wife, Lisa, of Laurinburg; four grandchildren, Taylor Harper and Pearce Harper of Trinity and Whitney Harper and Millie Joseph of Laurinburg; brother, Billy Pearce and wife, Suzanne, of Lake Gaston; mother-in-law, Lottie Harper of High Point; sister-in-law, Carolyn Smith and husband, Dan, of Durham; nieces, Carmen Adams and husband, Mike, of Charlotte and Jennifer Smith of Durham; nephew, David Smith of Durham; and a great-nephew, McRae Adams.

Lynda Kulick Swaim
Lynda Kathryn Kulick Swaim, 43, of Rolesville died Monday April 12, 2010, at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
Lynda was born in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of Dr. Joseph Anthony Kulick and Mary Elizabeth Garrett Kulick. She was employed by the City of Raleigh.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 o’clock Friday morning, April 16, 2010, at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church with Father Philip Tighe officiating. Burial was in Wake Forest Cemetery.
Lynda is survived by her husband Ronald Swaim; her mother, Mary Kulick of Wake Forest; her father, Dr. Joseph A Kulick of Louisburg; sister, Lisa Bradley of Raleigh; brother, David James Kulick of Louisburg; and two nieces, Lauren Karen Bradley and Lindsay Kaitlyn Bradley.

Violet Denton Woodlief
Violet Denton Woodlief, 84, formerly of 222 Forestville Road, Wake Forest, passed away April 19, 2010, at Hillside Nursing Center. Mrs. Woodlief was born in Franklin County to Allen Denton and Hettie Weaver Denton and was a member of Wake Union Baptist Church.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, April 21, 2010, at Fairview Cemetery in Franklinton.
he is survived by her sisters, Lula Bobbitt and Annie Florence Morton, both of Franklinton; grandchildren, Jerry Woodlief of Raleigh and Lynette Woodlief Weatherly of Wake Forest; and great-grandchildren, Brandy and Jared Weatherly.

Doris Chappell
Doris Chappell, 78, of Raleigh died Monday, April 19, 2010.
Mrs. Chappell was born in Harnett County, the daughter of the late Mary Sills Jackson and Roy Jackson, and was the owner and operator of her own beauty salon for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Broughton; her brothers, Larry Jackson and William “Doc” Jackson; and by her sisters, Bobbie Sauls, Clara Hall and Ruby Faircloth.
A memorial service will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon, April 22, 2010, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home.
Mrs. Chappell is survived by her son, Ron Chappell of Raleigh; sister, Peggy Strickland and husband, Toby, of Dunn; granddaughter, Alison Chappell of Washington, D.C.; and sister-in- law, Dean Jackson of Coats.
