Lawrence ‘Larry’ Barrett
Lawrence Joseph “Larry” Barrett, 50, of Youngsville, died April 11, 2010.
Lawrence was born in Staten Island, N.Y., the son of the late Martin Edward Barrett.
He was a milling machine operator and a former Wake Forest firefighter. He was a beloved brother, uncle, and a steadfast and loyal friend.
A memorial service honoring his life will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon, April 17, 2010. in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary McNair officiating.
Lawrence is survived by his brothers, Michael Barrett of Reston, Va., and Edward Barrett and wife, Stephanie, of Youngsville; girlfriend, Sherry Williams; nieces and nephews, Ciara, Stephanie, John, Katherine and Martin.
Memorial contributions may be made to the North Carolina Fallen Fire Fighters Foundation, 2501 Blue Ridge Road, Suite 250, Raleigh, NC 27607 in memory of Lawrence “Larry” Barrett.
The family will receive friends following the service at Bright Funeral Home & Cremation Center.
Hettie W. Blackwell
Hettie Mildred Williams Blackwell, 90, of Raleigh, died on April 9, 2010, after a brief illness.
Hettie was born on October 17, 1919, to the late Hubert and Hettie Williams of Rolesville. She graduated from Rolesville High School in 1939 and attended Pfeiffer College. Hettie was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Robert Thomas Blackwell.
Funeral services were held at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, April 11, 2010, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial was in the Rolesville Baptist Church Cemetery.
urvivors include daughters, Elaine B. Rogers and husband, Lee C. Rogers, and June B. Moore and husband, Donald G. Moore. “Granny“ is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Kristin Elaine Moore Speight and husband, Alvis Gray Speight Jr., Michael Robert Moore, Jessica Lee Rogers and Ethan Thomas Rogers.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the people of Mayview Convalescent Center and to Hospice of Wake County for their wonderful care.
Pallbearers were Lee Rogers, Don Moore, Michael Moore, Ethan Rogers, Alvis Gray Speight, Jr. and Donnie Gilleland.

Douglas J. Sykora
Douglas Joseph Sykora, 67, Youngsville, died Wednesday evening April 7, 2010, at Duke University Hospital. He was born in Queens, N.Y., the son of the late Joseph and Florence Sykora. Mr. Sykora was retired from the U.S. Army and the National Guard.
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon April 11, 2010, at Fuller Chapel United Church of Christ with the Rev. Tammy Ayscue officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his daughter, Stacey Tator and husband, Troy, of Youngsville; sons, Keith Sykora of Youngsville and David Sykora and wife, Lori, of Waterford, Conn.; a brother, Dennis Sykora and wife, Pauline, of Long Island, N.Y.; and grandchildren, Jordan Perry, Dillon Sykora, Shelby Sykora, Katelyn Sykora, Jillian Sykora, Chloee Tator and Megan Glover. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Ann Sykora.
