William Frank Hodge

William Frank Hodge of Wake Forest died Friday morning February 19, 2010, with his wife and sweetheart, Nadelle, at his side and held in the tender love of his four children.
Frank was born May 5, 1920, in Zebulon to Irma Venecia Pair and Henderson Allison Hodge. He is predeceased by a brother and two sisters.
Frank married Winnie Nadelle Watkins on May 9, 1941, and their love and devotion remained steadfast to the last moment, their journey together a true inspiration to those who knew them. Frank had enlisted in the Navy in April 1941, just weeks before they married, and served on the USS Schenck and the USS Dashiell in the North Atlantic and Pacific.
In later years Frank had been fortunate to reconnect with several of his Navy buddies across the country with strong friendships. The Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star Chapter in Rolesville had significant meaning for both Frank and Nadelle, forging lifelong friendships and strengthening their lives with a sense of community and fraternity. Frank was a Master Mason and mentor to many, and also served as Worthy Patron in the Eastern Star with his beloved Nadelle.
Frank enjoyed singing in the choir at the Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church and later served as a Deacon in the Rolesville Baptist Church. Frank and Nadelle moved to Charlotte in 1964 where Frank worked as an OSHA Inspector for the North Carolina Department of Labor for 26 years, retiring in 1982.
Frank and Nadelle returned to the Rolesville area and built their prized home “Hodge Haven” on Manly Farm Road. Frank loved sitting in the swing and feeding his hummingbirds; he loved to go fishing early in the morning when the sun was coming up; he loved to play his harmonica and have his daughters sing along; he loved his faithful dog of many years Brutus; he loved a good joke and he loved meeting people. He was a craftsman with wood, making beautiful treasures in his basement shop.
Frank leaves his wife, Nadelle, his son, William Frank Hodge II and wife, Cora, of Rolesville; daughters, Gwen Miles and husband, Sherman, from Vermont, Suzanne King and husband, Gordon, from Florida; and son, Al and wife, Mary Malone, from Charlotte. He also leaves special nephew Thomas Patrick and wife, Becky, from Virginia, grandchildren and great-grandchildren scattered all over the country, extended family members and many friends. Frank and Nadelle have a special Angel, great niece Lisa Shaver from Raleigh, who was their companion and loving caregiver for several years.
Funeral services were held on Monday morning, February 22, at 11 o’clock in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial was in the Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors and Masonic graveside rites.
The family has requested that there be no flowers and memorials in Frank’s name can be made to the Rolesville Lodge #683, A.F. & A.M.
Pallbearers were E. T. Cozart, Spence Jones, Ray Novak, Thomas Patrick, Gordon King and Sherman Miles.
