Hyacinth ‘Hy’ Jackson
Hyacinth “Hy” Weathersby Jackson, 95, of Raleigh, formerly of Wake Forest, died Sunday morning, January 10, 2010, at Rex Hospital.
he was born in Franklin County, the daughter of the late John Robert and Patty Beulah Medlin Weathersby, and was married to Angus Allen Jackson, who preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, January 12, 2010, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Al Thomas officiating. Burial was in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Jackson is survived by her daughters, Caroline Bruneau and husband, Art, and Sally J. Gryder, all of Raleigh; grandchildren, Cherie Lassiter, Heidi Lassiter and Rick Lassiter all of Raleigh, Mandy Sweeney of Asheboro, Mary Catherine Grimm of Clearwater, Fla., and Ashley Drinnon of Charlotte; and four great-grandchildren.

George H. Ives
George H. Ives, 70, of Raleigh, passed away Friday, January 8, 2010, at Duke Raleigh Hospital. He was born in Prattville, N.Y., and was a residential contractor.
A memorial service will be held at 11 o’clock Saturday morning, January 16, 2010, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home.
Mr. Ives is survived by his wife of 23 years, Rosemarie Pirozzi-Ives; son, Marco Pirozzi and wife, Meg, of Raleigh; daughter, Nina Pirozzi-Blake and husband, Brian, of Hoboken, N.J.; grandsons, Dino Pirozzi, Luca Blake and Mylo Blake; a sister and several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; a loving family of many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. He was predeceased by his parents and in-laws.

Ralph S. Tanner Sr.
Ralph S. Tanner Sr., 84, of Louisburg, passed away with his family by his side following a short illness on Saturday, January 9, 2010, at Wake Medical Center.
He was born in Franklin County, Vermont, the son of the late Henry and Emma Fleury Tanner. Mr. Tanner was an entrepreneur and a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving in WW II as an Army Engineer.
Memorial services were held at 11 o’clock Tuesday morning, January 12, 2010, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Bowyer officiating.
Mr. Tanner is survived by his wife of 41 years, Theresa Riley Tanner; children, Sandra and John Sivewright of Orangeburg, S.C., Linda and Brian Rand of Selkirk, N.Y., Rachelle “Shelly” Tanner and partner, Chris Godwin, of Madrid, N. Mex., Edmund and Jill Homer of Mint Hill and Cathy and David Bove of Winter Haven, Fla.; 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sons, Ralph Tanner Jr. and Russell Homer; sister, Hester Tanner, and brother, Lawrence (Sonny) Tanner.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Wake Medical Center Surgical Intensive Care Unit for the care given to Mr. Tanner during his illness.

William A. ‘Bill’ Vestal
William A. “Bill” Vestal, 86, of Raleigh, died Monday, January 11, 2010, at his home.
He was born in Rockingham County, the son of the late Greeley and Allie Roberts Vestal, and was retired from AT&T Communications. Mr. Vestal was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving in WWII. He was married to Ethel Wadford Vestal, who preceded him in death.
A memorial service will be held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon, January 17, 2010, at Bay Leaf Baptist Church, 12200 Bay Leaf Road, Raleigh.
Mr. Vestal is survived by his son, B. Randall Vestal and wife, Jenny, of Royston Herts, England; grandsons, David Vestal and wife, Melissa, of Cary, Dennis Vestal and wife, Krissy, of Greenville and Douglas Vestal and wife, Lindsey, of Stanford, Conn.; great-grandchildren, Kyleigh Vestal, Carter Vestal, Chloe Vestal, Blake Vestal, Courtni Chapin, Tyler Chapin, Maddie Vestal and Marley Vestal.
Friends may visit with the family from 7 to 8:30 Friday evening, January 15, 2010, at Bright Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 405 S. Main St., Wake Forest.

Barbara H. Montague
Barbara Holliday Montague, 79, died January 4, 2010, at her home in Wake Forest after a long illness.  Born in Austin, Texas, she grew up in Houston and met her future husband of 60 years in college in the state of Washington. She was first a teacher, but when her children graduated high school, she returned to school and trained to be a Registered Nurse. At retirement she was Head Obstetrical Nurse at McPherson Hospital in Howell, Michigan.
Funeral and inurnment were held Saturday morning, January 9, 2010, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Wake Forest, N.C.
Mrs. Montague is survived by her husband, Gene; four children, Christopher of Chicago, Ill., Elisabeth of Statesville, William Anthony of Cincinnati, Ohio and Andrew of Grosse Pointe, Mich.; ten grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy Clendenen of Comanche, Texas, and Elizabeth Bratteng of Austin, Texas; and two brothers, Sam Holliday of Atlanta, Ga., and Robert Holliday of Georgetown, Va.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Building Fund of St. John’s are suggested.

Adelia “Dee Dee” Knight
Adelia “Dee Dee” Knight, 54, formerly of Wake Forest, died Saturday, January 2, 2010, at The Oaks of Carolina. She was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late Mannie Kathleen Watkins Knight and Joseph Noel Knight.
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, January 5, 2010, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial was in Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery.
Miss Knight is survived by her sisters, Lane K. Lowery of Youngsville, Carol K. Evans of Durham and Rachel Knight-Hendricks of Florida; and brother, Neal Knight of Chesapeake, Va. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by a brother, Bobbie Knight.

Vivian Lamb Ray
Vivian Lamb Ray, 75, of 917 White Memorial Church Road, Willow Spring, died Saturday, January 2, 2010, at her home. She was born in Vance County, the daughter of the late Kate and John Lamb Sr., and was retired from the N.C. Department of Motor Vehicles.
A graveside funeral service was held at 3 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, January 6, 2010, at Ridgecrest Baptist Church Cemetery, Wake Forest.
Mrs. Ray is survived by her husband, William B. “Bill” Ray; daughter, Tania Thompson Quick and husband, Dave, of Willow Spring; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild; son; Larry H. Ray of Wake Forest; brother, John Lamb Jr. of Raleigh; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Freddie Wilson Thompson Jr.

Regina Carnrike Monro
Regina Carnrike Monro, 59, of Bunn, beloved wife of David Monro Sr., went to be with the Lord on January 1, 2010.
A memorial service was held at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, January 3, 2010, at the Bunn Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her father and mother, James and Gladys Carnrike of Sherburne, N.Y.; sisters, Donna Bartlett of Louisburg, Barbara Carnrike of Cazenovia, N.Y., and Debra Wedge of Earlville, N.Y.; her children, Dawn Susie of Titusville, Fla., Gordon James Turner Jr. of Mims, Fla., Christy Doing of Norwich, N.Y., Wes Monro of Bellview, Neb., David Monro Jr. of Bunn, and Ed Monro of Hardeeville, S.C.; 15 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A. Allene Williams

Annie Allene Williams 87, born February 7, 1922, in Johnston County to the late William Leonard and Ida Lee Olive Smith, passed away January 1, 2010, at her residence at Falls River Village Assisted Living. She was formerly from Averette Road, Wake Forest.

Allene was a 1945 graduate of Rex Nursing School and worked as a registered nurse for the late Dr. George Mackie in Wake Forest. She went on to work at Northern Wake Hospital until she retired in 1985. She was a lifelong member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Youngsville, where she was active in her Sunday School Class and the WMU. Allene was also active in the community, serving as a founding member on the Northern Wake Senior Center Committee. She enjoyed being a member of the Young at Heart Club and Wake Forest Garden Club.

Allene is survived by her granddaughters, Michelle Tyson and husband, Eric, and Wendy Moody; two great-grandsons, Tristan and Brooks Tyson; numerous nieces and nephews; and a daughter, Wynonna Hall McGhee. She was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters as well as her husbands, Roger Earl Williams and Hal Furman Hall.

Her family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Falls River Village and the caring team at Liberty Hospice for the comfort they provided Allene until her death.

A service in honor of her life was held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, January 5, 2010, at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Henry T. Fuhrer
Henry T. Fuhrer, 86, of Raleigh, died Wednesday, December 30, 2009, at Duke Raleigh Hospital.
He was born in Queens, N.Y., the son of the late Jennie Pavelka Fuhrer and Henry Fuhrer. Mr. Fuhrer was a retired area specialist with IBM in Long Island, N.Y., and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he served in WWII.
Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon January 2, 2010, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with Rev. Ricky Mill officiating. Burial was in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Fuhrer is survived by his wife, Florence Fuhrer; sons, Kenneth Fuhrer and wife, JoAnn, of Franklinton, Robert Joseph Fuhrer of Raleigh and Edward Fuhrer and wife, Angelika, of N.Y.; a sister, Anna Fischer of N.Y.; and grandchildren, Rachel, Christian, Robbie, Jacqueline, Edward, Dylan, Alexandra and Mackenzie Fuhrer.

Clyde Oren Crowell Jr.
Clyde Oren Crowell Jr., 80, of Youngsville, passed peacefully from this life early Christmas morning after a courageous battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Betty Winecoff Crowell; his loving daughters, Patricia Ann Crowell and Susan Crowell Estes and husband, Michael Scott Estes; cherished grandchildren, Brandy Michelle Hudgins, Bryan Crowell Estes, Jessica Lynn Estes, Zachary Alexander Hudgins.
His childhood years were spent in Roxboro, N.C. until graduation from high school in 1947. He then briefly attended Campbell University before enlisting into the United States Air Force. Upon completion of his tour he attended NCSU where he graduated with a bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering. He was employed by ITT in Raleigh until his retirement.
The greatest accomplishment of his life is how he daily lived the principles God set for us in the Holy Bible. Honesty, faith, courage, integrity, humility, love and service were his life principles. This legacy he has passed on to everyone whose life he touched.
A celebration of his life was held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, January 2, 2010 in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with Pastor Jimmy Carroll officiating.

Rachel (Jones) Burress

 Rachel (Jones) Burress was born to Leola Burnett and Judge Jones on August 11, 1936, in Carlisle, Arkansas. She was the third of six children. Rachel gave her life to Christ at an early age and lived in Arkansas until she moved to Los Angeles, California, where she completed her formal education. It was there that she met Mr. Charlie M. Burress. The two were united in holy matrimony on May 26, 1956. This union was blessed with seven children, three girls, three boys and one god-son.
Rachel was an outstanding person. She exemplified the term “unconditional love”. She was able to see people as God saw them, never seeing the obvious but the possibilities. She will be missed and always remembered by many for her wisdom, dedication and faith in God.
Funeral services were held at 1 o’clock on Saturday, January 2, 2010, at the Oakdale Mortuary in Glendora, California. Burial was in Oakdale Memorial Gardens.
he leaves to cherish her loving memories: three sons, Zedelias (Tammie) Burress of Victorville, California, Dwight Burress of Vacaville, California, and Alfred (Lisa) Burress of Raleigh; three daughters, Margaret Ann Williams of Palm Springs, California, Sandra (Willie) Fruga and Jacqueline (Ronnie) Moore of Charlotte.; one god-son, Bobbie Croaker of Culver City, California; four sisters, Frances (Jake) Mosby, Hazel (E.J.) Sims, Forestine (Robert) Dupree and Dorothy Maloy; one brother, Harvey (Mary) Jones; two brothers-in-law, Willie (Genette) Burress and Huddie (Elizabeth) Burress; sisters-in-law, Deloris Burress, Ola Mae Burress and Allie V. Burress; 25 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mark Owens

Mark Owens, age 59, of Wake Forest, passed away Monday, December 28, 2009. 
He was born on January 14, 1950 in Frying Pan, Va., the son of the late Francis and Marie Owens. He and his wife Karen resided in Wake Forest and were regular attendees of Faith Baptist Church in Youngsville. Mark was an accomplished guitarist and an ardent follower of Tennessee Volunteers football.
Mark was devoted to his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Karen; a daughter, Brooke Owens; a step-daughter, Megan Eils and husband, Dustin; a brother, Thomas Owens; and sisters, Barbara Johnston, Cheryl Gibson, and Terrie Simonson. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Maggie.
Mark’s lifelong work was in construction. He founded the Olde Dominion Construction Company in Raleigh. In later years he took on a business partner, Steve King.
A memorial service was held at 7 o’clock, Tuesday evening, January 5, 2010, at Bright Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
Memorial donations may be sent to the American Heart Association. Friends may visit with the family following the services.
