Kathleen Gilmer Robinson Mackie Lake
February 28, 1911 – November 21, 2009
Kathleen Gilmer Robinson Mackie Lake of Wake Forest died at her home on Saturday, Nov. 21. Born in Philadelphia, Penn., she was the daughter of James K. and Kathleen G. Patterson Robinson. Her sister, Annie R. Barrington, and brother, James K. Robinson Jr., predeceased her.
Mrs. Lake was educated at the Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, Penn., and Mlle. Alice Rey’s School in Paris, France. She met George C. Mackie, M.D., while he was attending the University of Pennsylvania Medical School, and they were married on August 28, 1934. 
The couple moved to Wake Forest where Dr. Mackie was a professor at the Wake Forest College School of Medicine and also served the community as a physician. For many years Mrs. Mackie worked with her husband, keeping books, assisting in the office and driving him throughout the countryside after office hours so that he could sleep between house calls. Dr. Mackie died in 1969.
Mrs. Lake was a member and president of the Wake Forest Garden Club, a member of Wake Forest Baptist Church, United Services Organization (USO), Wake County Medical Society Auxiliary, Wake Forest Community Council, the American Red Cross, Wake Forest Women’s Club, Wake Forest College Faculty Wives’ Club, and Southeastern Baptist Seminary Faculty Wives’ Club, and was a Wake Forest University Trustee.
In 1968 she received the Town of Wake Forest Citizenship Award and she was one of the founding members of the Wake Forest College Birthplace Society. She was listed in “Who’s Who in North Carolina” 1973-74 and “Outstanding Americans in the South” in 1975. Mrs. Lake was honored by Wake Forest University for her leadership as a founding member of the Wake Forest College Birthplace Society.
In 1983 she married Justice I. Beverly Lake Sr., who died in 1996. Mrs. Lake is survived by her two sons, James W. Mackie and his wife, Clare Frances Mackie, of Haverford, Penn., and George C. Mackie Jr. and his wife, Martha Hunt Mackie, of Wake Forest; a step-son, Justice I. Beverly Lake Jr. and his wife, Susan Lake, of Raleigh; five grandchildren, Alison Hurst and her husband, Frank, of Wake Forest, Amy Mackie of Ashville, Ashland Brown and her husband, Kent, of Duncan, S.C., Jane Mackie of Philadelphia and Linda Mackie of Phoenixville, Penn.; nine great-grand children;  and two great-great grandchildren.
A service in honor of her life was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at the Wake Forest Baptist Church. Burial was in the Southeastern Baptist Seminary Cemetery.

Inez Davis Wheeler
Inez Davis Wheeler, 86, of Wake Forest, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009.
he was born in Granville County, the daughter of the late Lee and Pearl O’Neal Davis, and was retired from Westinghouse after 33 years of service.
Funeral services were held at 11 o’clock Friday morning, Nov. 20, 2009, at Mary’s Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Al Thomas officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Wheeler is survived by her children, Lillian W. Parrish of Louisburg, Barbara W. Peace of Franklinton, Sam Wheeler of Timberlake, Milton Wheeler of Wake Forest and Joan W. Watson of Creedmoor; sister, Louise Allgood of Henderson; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow W. Wheeler.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mary’s Chapel Baptist Church or to the charity of your choice.
Pallbearers were Greg Wheeler, Benson Wheeler, Gerald Wheeler, Michael Thompson, Ronnie Jackson and Lewis Parrish.

Cynthia Graham Currin
Cynthia “Cindy” Graham Currin, 56, of Raleigh, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at her home.
he was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend and was a faithful servant and follower of Christ. She loved quilting, volunteering and spending time with family and friends. Cindy touched the lives of many and those who were privileged to know her were blessed.
Funeral services were held at 11:30 Friday morning, Nov. 20, 2009, at First Assembly of God in Raleigh. Burial was in Brier Creek Memorial Gardens.
Cindy is survived by her husband, Thomas Currin; son, Justin Currin of Raleigh; daughters, Leslie Currin and Alesha Currin of Raleigh; and granddaughter, Madeline Currin of Creedmoor. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Elmer “Jack” Graham and Flora Hicks Graham, and a brother, Jack Graham.
