Halbert Murray ‘Hal’ Wood III

                Halbert Murray “Hal” Wood III, 69, of Wake Forest, died Saturday evening, November 14, 2009, at his home.

                He was born in Nashville, Tennessee, the son of the late Wilma Crowder Wood and Halbert Murray Wood Jr. and was a mechanical engineer for Joseph E. Seagram & Sons, Inc.

                Services will be held in Cincinnati, Ohio, at a later date.
                Mr. Wood is survived by his wife, Shirley Kirby Wood; daughter, Wendy Hauteman and husband, Jeff, of Cincinnati, Ohio; son, Jeff Wood and wife, Maggie, of Shelbyville, Ind.; sister, Reba Fielden of Cincinnati, Ohio; grandchildren, McKenna and Ally Hauteman of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Ashley and Abby Wood of Shelbyville, Ind.

Sandra ‘Sandy’ Corbett
                Sandra Coggin “Sandy” Corbett, 50, of Louisburg died Sunday afternoon, November 15, 2009, at her home.
                She was born in Orlando, Florida, the daughter of Lunervy House Coggin and the late John Coggin.
                Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon November 18, 2009, at Flat Rock Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary McNair officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
                Sandy is survived by her husband, Percy Corbett; son, Chris Thompson; mother, Lunervy Coggin; sister, Donna Medlin and husband, Tony; grandson, Colton Thompson; and nieces, Elizabeth Cawhon and Alice Hodge. She was preceded in death by a brother, Danny Coggin.

Scott A. Derby
                Scott Allan Derby, 37, of Wake Forest, died Friday November 13, 2009. He was owner and operator of the award-winning Omniscapes Landscaping Company.
                Funeral services were held at 11 o’clock Monday morning, November 16, 2009, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with Chaplain David Johnson officiating. Burial was in Lakeview Memorial Park in Greensboro.
                Scott is survived by his wife, Jennifer Derby; daughter, Isabelle Grace Derby; parents, Ruth and Wayne Smith of Dunn; brother, Anthony Smith and wife, Jennifer, of Statesville; mother-in-law, Beth Derby of Connecticut; father-in-law, Charles Derby of Connecticut; sister-in-law, Allison Chicosky and husband, Brant, of Jacksonville; and nephew, Lucas Charles Chicosky.
                Pallbearers were Mark Senor, John Park, Anthony Smith, Walter Smith, Brant Chicosky and Kris Fiskhlien.

Lydia Marie Johnson Barnes

                Lydia Marie Johnson Barnes, 80, of Wake Forest, died Saturday morning November 14, 2009, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.
                She was born on September 19, 1929 in Greene County, the daughter of the late Paul and Lydia Canary Johnson.
                Although she worked outside the home for many years at Wake Forest Hospital, Wake Forest Federal Savings & Loan and Huyck Corporation, her true vocation was as a mother and homemaker. She was active at Community Baptist Church as a Sunday School teacher and choir member, and she was an excellent gardener, cook and seamstress.
                Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, November 16, 2009, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Willie Teague officiating. Burial was in the Wake Forest Cemetery.
                Marie is survived by her husband of 61 years, Clarence “Hap” Barnes; a son, Clarence “Bo’ Barnes III of Warrenton; daughters, Anne Marie Barnes of Raleigh and Kathy Willis and husband, Buddy, of Wake Forest; close friend, Pam Medlin Keith of Wake Forest; five grandchildren, Stephen Willis and wife, Courtney, Mary Kathryn Willis, Joshua, Eric and Katie Barnes; and one great-grandchild, Berkley Stephen Willis.
                The family would like to thank Glenda Grant of Hospice of Wake and Janie Coleman, a caregiver, for all their wonderful care for Marie.

Joanne Montjoy
                Nelva Joanne Montjoy, 68, of Wake Forest, died Wednesday evening, November 11, 2009, at her residence. She was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late Nellie O’Neal Sherron and Goffrey Sherron.
                Funeral services were held at 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon, November 14, 2009, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. David Coltrane officiating. Burial was in the Perry Family Cemetery.
                Mrs. Montjoy is survived by her husband of 45 years, “Monty” Montjoy; sons, Michael Montjoy and wife, Stephanie, of Youngsville and Marvin Montjoy and wife, Michele, of Louisburg; sister, Faye Ray and husband, Sherman, of Wake Forest; and a grandson, Joshua Montjoy.
                Pallbearers were Charles Wiggins, Ray Wiggins, Richard Vaughan, Wayne Steele, Nathan Dean and Tim Adcock.

L. Paul Elliott
                Leslie Paul Elliott of Youngsville, died Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at Wake Medical Center.
                He was born in Peoria, Illinois, the son of the late Ruth Audean Hankins Elliott and Perry Jackson Elliott and was a computer scientist with Computer Science Corporation. Paul enjoyed many things, including auto racing, traveling to the Caribbean and most of all spending time with his family. 
                He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Janet Kolacki Elliott; sons, Derek Elliott and John Elliot; and special friend, John Moore of Youngsville.

Sean Michael Holmberg
            Sean Michael Holmberg, 40, Louisburg, died surrounded by his loving family Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at Duke University Medical Center after a courageous ten-year battle with brain cancer.
                He was born on March 20, 1969, and graduated in 1987 from Yough High School, attended Slippery Rock University and later graduated from Geneva College in 2000. Sean served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corp where he was also an All-Marine wrestler. He was a supervisor for Menasha Corporation in Pennsylvania and Temple-Inland in North Carolina.
                Sean was a devout catholic and spiritual leader who would often open the doors of his home to lead sacramental preparation and renewal groups. He dedicated himself to perpetual adoration weekly in the early morning hours.
                Sean loved coaching both elementary and high school students. Not only did he mentor his own children in wresting, football, softball, and volleyball, but also other children as well.
                Sean was an avid outdoorsman and especially loved to deer hunt. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend. His presence in the world will be greatly missed.
                A prayer service was held on Friday evening, November 13, 2009, at Bright Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant, Penn.
                Sean is survived by his wife of 17 years, Jennifer Holmberg; children, Torianne Holmberg and Gunnar Holmberg; parents, Russell Holmberg and Philena Holmberg of Mount Pleasant, Penn.; brother, Robert Holmberg and wife, Deidre Holmberg, of Greensburg, Penn.; grandmothers, Gladys Zeughardt of Dysart, Penn., and Christine Huchko of Southwest, Penn.; mother-in-law, Mary Jane Huchko of Louisburg; father-in-law, Joseph Huchko of Southwest, Penn.; sister-in-law, Julianne Witucki; brothers-in-law, Joseph Huchko Jr., Gregory Huchko, and Jeffrey Witucki; nieces, Madeline, Gabrielle, Kayla, Megan, Solvej, Chelsea (deceased) and nephew, Gavin. He is also survived by many close friends, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Robert L. ‘Bob’ Green
                Robert Lee “Bob” Green, 72, of Wake Forest, quietly went home to be with the Lord on November 10, 2009, at Duke University Medical Center.
                The son of Annie Lee McDaniel Green and the late Alonza Green, Mr. Green graduated from Adkin High School in Kinston. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from North Carolina Central University in Durham and a Masters of Social Work from Adelphi University in Garden City, N.Y. Mr. Green served in the United States Army for four years.
                Mr. Green retired from the New York State Department of Labor and Job Services in management. After retirement, he became the Chief Executive Officer at Paul J. Cooper Center for Human Services, a private nonprofit corporation. After retiring from Paul Cooper, Mr. Green moved to Wake Forest to be closer to family.  He was active with Association of Black Social Workers, Adelphi University Alumni Association and the N.A.A.C.P.
                A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 o’clock Monday morning, November 16, 2009, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Entombment was in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.

Cynthia Graham Currin
Cynthia “Cindy” Graham Currin, 56, of Raleigh, died Tuesday, November 17, 2009, at her home. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend and was a faithful servant and follower of Christ. She loved quilting, volunteering and spending time with family and friends. Cindy touched the lives of many and those who were privileged to know her were blessed.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 Friday morning, November 20, 2009, at First Assembly of God, 3249 Blue Ridge Road in Raleigh. Burial will follow in Brier Creek Memorial Gardens.
Cindy is survived by her husband, Thomas Currin; son, Justin Currin of Raleigh; daughters, Leslie Currin and Alesha Currin of Raleigh; granddaughter, Madeline Currin of Creedmoor. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Elmer “Jack” Graham and Flora Hicks Graham.
