Gertrude Dorothy Reitfort
1918-2009
Gertrude Dorothy “Dot” Reitfort, 91 of 1515 Golf Course Road, Littleton, died Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at The Covington House in Raleigh.
he was born on July 3, 1918, in Schenectady, New York, and lived in Vestal, New York, until she moved to Raleigh in 1965. She retired with her family in 1971 and built a beautiful lakeside home at Lake Gaston. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed dancing, especially square dancing, and loved being a grandmother.
A memorial service is being planned. Contact the family for further information. 
Mrs. Reitfort is survived by a daughter, Susan Jean Reitfort of Raleigh; a son and daughter-in-law, David Henry and Connie Leigh Reitfort of Raleigh; and a granddaughter, Laurel Leigh Reitfort of Gray, Tennessee.
Mrs. Reitfort is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Henry “Hank” Anthony Reitfort.

James D. “Jim” Caprell
      James Dalphus “Jim” Caprell, 84, of Raleigh died Wednesday October 21, 2009, at his home. 
      He was born in Franklin County to the late Minnie Williams Caprell and James D. Caprell. Mr. Caprell was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during WWII in the 3rd Army in the European Theatre in Germany, France and Belgium under General George C Patton. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and a member of the James B. Green Lodge #735 A.F. & A.M. where he was a 32nd degree Mason.
      Mr. Caprell’s life was celebrated at 1 o’clock Monday afternoon, October 26, 2009, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with Masonic Rites. Entombment was in Brier Creek Memorial Gardens with military honors.
      Mr. Caprell is survived by his wife, Latitia “Tish” Sanders Caprell; daughters, Lisa C. Rogers of Bunn and Lori Lawrence & husband, James, of Franklinton; son, Bart Dalphus Caprell and wife, Marijake, of Raleigh; and four grandchildren, Megan Humpal and husband, Brandon, of Raleigh, Travis Smith and wife, Megan, of Greensboro, Hunter Caprell and Hanna Caprell. Mr. Caprell was preceded in death by his sister, Edna Grissom.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Wake County (1300 St Mary’s Street, 4th Floor, Raleigh, NC 27605) in gratitude of their unwavering support to Mr. Caprell and his family.

Joann Agnes Beal
            Joann Agnes Beal, 69, of Bunn, died Tuesday October 20, 2009, at Nash General Hospital.
            She was born in Stafford Springs, Conn., the daughter of the late Andrew Hlobik and Agnes (Gracie) Hlobik and was a retired accountant.
            Joann was a volunteer in many different organizations including the Cancer Society, the Bunn Outreach Program, the Humane Society, the Angel Food Ministries, various garden clubs and the voting polls. She was a member of the NCECA, a women’s organization that is big in the State of North Carolina, where she was past president, vice president and was currently serving as treasurer.
            Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon, October 24, 2009, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Spain officiating. Burial followed in the Southeastern Seminary Cemetery.
            She is survived by her husband, Clyde Beal; daughter, Gina Hlobik of Provincetown, Mass.; step-daughter, Jeanette Bottorff of Windber, Penn.; her brother, Bill Hlobik and wife, Janet, of Willington, Conn.; three step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
            Pallbearers were Alex Cleghorn, Jeff Beal, Roland Hlobik, Shawn Beal, Buzz Beal and Cecil Beal.

Walter Arthur McAllister
            Walter Arthur McAllister of Wake Forest was born on May 24, 1919, in Kinston to the late Charles Felix McAllister Sr. and Addie Green McAllister and departed this life on October 18, 2009, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. His siblings were the late Charles Felix Jr., Carl and sister Blanche Alston.
            Walter married his beloved wife, Johnie Edwards McAllister, on April 28, 1939, who preceded him in death after 69 years of marriage. From that union they were blessed with two loving daughters.
            Walter graduated from Adkin High School in Kinston. Coached by the late George Busby and Aaron Womack, he was a three letterman athlete, excelling in football, basketball, and baseball. Walter was a skilled artisan-plaster, working in several towns in North Carolina, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. After moving to Newark, N.J., Walter worked for thirty-five years over the five boroughs of New York and ended his career as a construction craftsman on the World Trade Center. 
            He was a charter member Emmanuel Hill Memorial Free Will Baptist Church and attended Peaceful Zion Baptist Church in Irvington, N.J. Before retirement, he enjoyed travel in the USA and the Caribbean.
            Bereft at his passing are devoted daughters, Dr. Desretta McAllister-Harper (Robert H. “Stonewall” Jackson) Wake Forest, and LaVerne E. McAllister, Upper Marlboro, Md.; a sister-in-law, Lisbeth Ellen E. Berry, Kinston; a special niece, Treda S. Berry, Charlotte; a great-niece, Ingrid A. Shepherd, Raleigh; and a host of other relatives and friends.
            The memorial service was held Saturday afternoon, October 24, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at the Forestville Baptist Church.

Alton D. Kearney
            Alton Daniel Kearney, 67, of 2421 Kearney Road, Wake Forest, died Saturday evening, October 24, 2009, at Franklin Regional Hospital.
            He was born in Wake County, the son of the late Lucille Henry Kearney and Daniel Priestly Kearney. Mr. Kearney was a plumber and exterminator for many years and worked with his wife at Wake Stone Gardens prior to its closing.
            Funeral services were held at 11 o’clock Tuesday morning, October 27, 2009, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Williams officiating. Burial was in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
            Mr. Kearney is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ruth O’Neal Kearney; daughters, Laverne Mitchell and husband, Joseph, of Wake Forest, Rita Shaut and husband, Bobby, of Wake Forest and Lisa Wallace and husband, Wesley, of Georgia; son, Billy Kearney of Wake Forest; sister, Patricia Hill of Wake Forest; brother, V. C. Kearney and wife, Pat, of Wake Forest; and grandchildren, Olivia Shaut, Ashley Shaut, Grace Wallace and Gwen Wallace.

Barbara Jean King Perry
            Barbara Jean King Perry, 66, of Wake Forest, passed away at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, October 25, 2009, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.
            She was born June 20, 1943, to the late Percy Elbert King and Bilyon Dollar Mitchell King. Barbara was a wonderful wife and mother. She was an active member of Beulah Christian Church and worked for many years at Jefferson-Pilot.
            Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, October 27, 2009, at Beulah Christian Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
            Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 48 years, Roy Daniel Perry Sr.; her son, Danny Perry and wife, Kim, and daughter, Donna Perry Soluri and husband, Michael; four brothers, John Henry King, Rufus Elbert King, Thomas Earl King and Sidney Addison King; and four sisters, Clara Alice Townsend, Ida Mae Raybon, Edith Louise Perry, and Linda Carolyn Guthrie.
            Upon retirement she focused her attention on three grandchildren, Hannah Perry, and Nicholas and Isabella Soluri. They remember their loving grandmother who spoiled them without end. Barbara shared fond and loving memories with her many brothers and sisters in-law. She loved all her nieces and nephews who filled her life with happiness and joy. She believed that, “It is not what you give a child, but how you raise them that counts.”
            In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Archie King.
            The family would like to thank Dr. William Dunlap, his nurses, and staff at Raleigh Medical Group, and Heartland Hospice, especially Danielle Yarborough and Andrea Pridgen, for the care and support they gave Barbara.
Pallbearers were Sidney King, Thomas King, Tony Perry, Scott Pulley, Darin Perry, Tommy Cozart and Donnie Perry.
